Canon 7d Lens

Hey guys, just bought a 7d. Along with my 50mm 1.4 lens I got a Canon 28-105 3.5-4.5 II USM lens. Am I going to have problems with the jello effect am shakiness since it's not an IS or VC? Any help would be appreciated

Since the 7D is so light most people experience small but noticeable shakiness in their footage when simply holding the camera and lens with their hands which, of course, looks no better due to the impact of skew/jello. Of course, if you begin walking or even panning, even more shake is likely to appear as you are moving. My suggestions:

Find a way to stabilize the camera for handheld shots. That may be using the "taught-neckstrap" technique ($0), a weight and some handles rigged to the bottom mount($$), or a commercial rig or viewfinder from Zacuto, RedRock, or Cinevate ($$$). As your expenditure increases, so does the performance of the product.

Or stay away from handheld shots. Use traditional camera motion techniques - the pan and tilt of a sturdy tripod with a good head, a dolly or slider for longitudinal movements. Even jibs and cranes can help. The expenditure here can become rather large for those on strict budgets.

Lastly, shoot wide. ~35mm focal length or wider, preferably. Wider shots make the effect less noticeable.

1. Get a viewfinder. You need it to accurately focus and it gives you another point of contact.

2. The battery grip, with an extra battery, gives you more real estate to grip, more weight that helps stability and lots of extra run time.
