Canon 7D Audio workaround

Hello,

I am doing a shoot in a couple of days and i need some advice

The problem is that we don't have external audio device, like a zoom H4N

and need to find a way to capture audio for the boom

On the shoot we are going to use a Canon 7D and dvx100B but the 7D is the main camera and the dvx will be the 2nd .

So since there is no XLR for the canon 7D can the DVX100 XLR input be connected to the boom mic (Rode mic) for audio capture and is it easy to sync up in post?

Thanks

we did it in the exact same way on a 5d and hvx shoot... it was for a documentary so we had a lav going into xlr 1 and then a boom going into xlr 2 (they were not stationary subjects... they were walking around a crime scene)

Thanks Beeble ,

was hoping for a better way but guess this will do , is it better to capture with both audio sources on ? mic and XLR ? just if the sound does not get picked up

Of course, and it will help you sync up audio later by at least having some audio with all your video.

I was linking you to another thread where this discussion has taken place. The guy was talking about recording audio into an external device. Even though it's not the system you'll be using specifically this time, it's an ideal workflow to aim for with the 7D if you can.
Otherwise, I didn't have much more to say. Your audio from the DVX100 should be fine. The audio will be easy to sync up as long as you make markers for the audio signal to sync up to.

i just finished 2 day shooting Short with 7d

we record the sound to Sony z-1 using slate

with great results:)
