C100: Canon 70-200 f4L IS USM - stabilization?

I am trying to decide whether to buy the newer Canon 70-200 f4L with IS or buy a used older Canon 70-200 f4L on eBay (very good prices) I read some articles on the Canon site and because this is primarily a still camera lens they only talk about how it stabilizes a still photograph. Does this stabilization work the same way when shooting video? Is it worth paying much more for the newer version of this lens?

I really like the IS on mine. I was amazed at the ability to hand hold with the IS...even out to 200MM. The IS is a two position switch, first position is full IS for hand holding and the second position is horizontal IS only and works like magic for me on a tripod. I often shoot convention speakers at 200MM and the second position IS makes panning as they pace back and forth MUCH smoother. I am definitely glad I got the newer version of the lens.

Newer lens is great for both stills and video. The IS really takes the shake out of the camera even when on a monopod but especially handheld. It was worth the cost to me.

I would buy any lens that has stabilization over not having it. IS works so well for taking the jitters out especially on longer lenses. The 24-105 in the longer range with IS on has saved me. Worth the extra expense. I have the 70-200 f4 non IS version. I bought this before they came out with the IS version. It's a great lens. Very sharp. I keep thinking about selling it and buying the new one but I don't use it that much, so I'm filling other gaps and will come back to it. I will eventually either get the F2.8 or another F4 with IS of course.

I have the lens and it is brilliant. I had the 70-200 2.8 before and sold it to move to the f4 with IS. It's just a much more useable lens in my experience - especially handheld.

The IS lens is one of the best Canon lenses.
Tack sharp for stills and the IS is amazingly efficient even when shooting handheld video @200mm...
Almost stuck on my 5dmarkIII

Another vote for IS. Not as necessary on the 16-35 but once you start getting to 50mm and beyond, especially on crop bodies the IS is crucial.

Defenitely the IS. Especially on outside shoots where wind is not always handy. Also when you shoot long lens and you will see your own heart rate ..!!
