Canon 60D monitor predicament

I've been looking at some old threads here about monitors. I understand that the 60D does not output true 1080 but rather outputs 480. I'd be satisfied with that as long as I can get the color and focusing right. Should I be ok with that?

I've read that some monitors actually have a thing where it zooms in and fills the entire screen instead of being boxed. I'd like to get one like that if possible.

So my predicament is that I'm torn between getting a laptop and just monitoring on there, or getting a proper monitor. A proper monitor would allow me to see color, exposure and so forth in more detail and would hopefully have the zoom thing to fill up the screen..... but getting a laptop is much cheaper, and I needed a laptop anyway.

What would you do?

I don't know that a laptop is "MUCH" cheaper. My DP-6 cost about $1K by the time you add in the battery plate, hood, etc... My laptop cost in that range as well. However a laptop won't give you false color, focus assist, crop marks, be mountable on the camera, etc...

if color and exposure is what you're worried about, nothing beats the camera's LCD screen (Shane Hurlbut dixit)
