Canon 60D AF points not lighting up

The AF points on my Canon 60D are not working; when I use autofocus for taking stills only 1 of the 9 AF points light up. No matter how close I am to the subject that same AF point is the only one working. I don't know why.

Besides getting a replacement, is there something else I can do to solve the problem? Thanks.

I dont know much about Canon AF but I know that certain Canon cameras have AF points of differing quality and the lesser ones can be turned off in the menu to increase the hit rate at the expense of less areas.

Probably you have to change the focusing screen. The screen can not be touched by your fingers or a very carefull cleaning process.
It happened to me the other day and called Canon USA, and they sold me a box with 5 screens for us$ 20

when I use autofocus for taking stills 8 of the 9 AF points don't light up. I don't know why

Of course only one of the 9 points will light up, the closest to the subject the camera thinks you want to focus on.

Your camera is simply set to Automatic AF Point selection, in this mode the camera chooses one of the 9 AF.

If you want to change the point selection manually,

-Set the top dial to one of the manual modes (P,A,S,or M)
-Press the (+) button on the top right of the front body (the same button you use to magnify/zoom in liveview/movie mode), a diagram of the 9 points will come up,
-Choose the point with rear or top dial.

My advice, set it to the center point, so that when you're shooting, you point that center point at the subject you want to focus on, press the shutter half-way, focus is achieved, change your framing then fully press the shutter. This way you get to choose what you want to focus on not leave it automatically for the camera to decide.

Anyhow, only one point will work at a time, this is how the 60D works, you cant focus on two different points at the same time.

If you're still worried some of them aren't working, choose each one and focus it on something, test each point. They'll be fine I am sure don't worry.

When I said only one of the 9 AF points light up what I really meant was that that one AF point was the only one working no matter how close the subject. I should've made that clear and will edit the post now.

Thanks for the advice.
