Canon 600D T3i - Full HD file size per 1 second

Hello guys... I was just wondering. While recording on Canon T3i in Full HD mode, what is the file size per one second?

Thanks

Just went through some of my 1080p 60D clips (should be the same as your T3i) and they seem to be around 5.5 to 5.6 MB for one second. I believe the codec is variable (according to image content complexity and therefore compression potential) so can't really be exact. Cheers.

So recording a 90 min movie would go through 30 GB :D OMG... I know that it's in .mov so what codec is the best to compress these files to much smaller files in post?

Probably it's best to downsample them to 720p. H.264 is already a very good codec with respect to file size vs quality IMO.

You can reduce the bitrate with Magic Lantern (at the lowest bitrate setting, i.e. CBR 0.1x, you should get around 2 hours in 4 GB, but the quality will be lower).

Hello to all, taking advantage of the topic here on the question of size of the videos. I have a Canon T3i and am about to purchase a memory card, but I'm dubious about a 16gb or 32gb card Class1.! I want to take pictures and videos in high quality. Which should I buy, I am afraid to buy a 32GB and not work right.
Thanks

Most Class 10 cards should be ok for your camera -- I have some older Class 6 cards and they are ok too but there's no reason not to buy Class 10 these days, regarding cost. I use 16 GB cards which gives me around 48 minutes of 1080p recording with the Canon 60D -- I don't like to use ultra big cards in case of a card failure which would lose you more material (though I have never had a card failure yet!) and it doesn't take long to swap out a full card for an empty one.

staff, I bought my memory card from Transcend 16GB, I put on my Canon T3i, but when I put in video mode, it appears only 29:30 instead of 48 minutes. Do you have something wrong? The camera's firmware is original and still did not update, does it have anything to do with it?
thank you

FAQ - it doesn't matter how large the card is, 29min's is always the max you'll see in the display.

Yes that's right, but don't worry, you'll still get your 48 minutes worth of the card capacity, it's just that the camera display "sticks" at 29.30 and only starts going down after you shoot more footage and genuinely have less than 29.30 capacity on the card.
