Hey People,

We shot a music video for artist Clara Lofaro in New York back in June. By the time we got started it was really a 9 hour day with a two man crew, myself and my friend Matt. It was a simple fun concept designed to fit inside the budget, but I have to say we had a blast shooting it. It's available at 1080p.

Hope you enjoy the video:

Shot with:

Canon 5D Mark ii 24-70 2.8 L Lens
Canon 7D Nikon 35,50,85mm 1.4 AIS lenses

Best Regards,

Chris

Wow, there are so many good things about this video. But something was
bothering me from the first time I watched it. It somehow just seemed a bit
fake to me. After a close examination I realized that it is quite genuine and
the talent on display is endearing and the performances quite exceptional.
It's filmed beautifully. The lighting on the talent is great.
So why was I not buying this? I think it's the black background. It's this charming
unrealistically happy, go-lucky piece, draped in undertaker black. It weighs
the happiness down in some subtle, yet powerful way. Like a black cloud.
I'm not a huge fan of green screen, but I think this would have worked well
with some bright, fantastic images lighting up the background.
But otherwise, great job!

I sort of agree, a song about smiling probably shouldn't be draped in deathly darkness and black but hey it was a budget piece so you did great I suppose with what you had

I have thought about this comment quite a bit and honestly during the entire edit process I never once thought about this... I feel that the white chair and black background is the palate that allows the colors on the characters to pop, as a smile pops out from the frowns or non smiles, a smile stands out in the "messed up world" mentioned in the song...

The universal sign for peace is black and white and that's our background here...

Thank you for this comment, it's always good to have opinions that make you think, helps us grown and make more educated decisions in the future.

On another note, we really could not afford more lighting than I had and in the very small New York dance studio our lights popped a fuse once even though we where not near max... I think it was the two window air conditioning units that did not pull constant power on a 95+ degree day. Fortunately it only did it once and I did my pre shoot checks and was able to get to the fuse box very quickly.

Best Regards,

Chris

What kind of adapter were you using to get the nikon's onto the 7D? Thanks

Hey Chris,

congrats, you've done a very nice job in a limited amount of time with minimal crew.
If you can remember, at what aperture & ISO have you been shooting and what kind of lighting package did you have?

Thank you, it was a lot of work for a 2 man crew, but like I said we had a lot of fun with the people in the video.

I don't remember off hand, but I know we did not go over 400 ISO it was likely 200 or 100 at f2.8

We used my Arri Fresnel kit 2-650s and 2-300s and rented 2 kino lights.

Fotodiox, it looks like they are guaranteeing infinity focus, cool! but it may be $30 now. But still worth a try, just getting multiples will start to add up faster. =(

I'd also be curious as to your light setup. How did you have them positioned? How were you using the kino flos? Thanks

This is a very good example of how to use DSLR cameras. I don't think they are meant for every sort of video, or shot, but I must say you did your thing. Thanks for posting. The colors were popping.

That being said now for the cons.

The only thing I see that's truly is wrong with it is the fact that I didn't see a Ravens sticker.

Oh yeah, and the dog was on the chair. I bet hair got everywhere. Naw man, I truly enjoyed it:)

LOL, I'm kinda of a Steelers fan who also like the Ravens, but I'd be more apt to slip the Lakers in than any team, I miss Los Angeles.

Thanks bro.

Actually not really, it was the feathers from the feathers scene that got everywhere, but we were very careful.
