Canon 5D MKIII speculations on release date and pricing

I'll be getting a Canon 5d mkII on Oct 1 (new budget year) because I have to work. I can't press the little button on a camera that doesn't exist.

The odds of the MKIII coming out very soon are improving-

-Best Buy have just slashed the price on the MKII
-Nikon are rumoured to be announcing a replacement for the D700 on Aug 24th
-It's long overdue

It sounds like either a Sept/Oct or Feb release.

And they quickly removed the link. Typo or is the cat out of the bag? Considering there were two links I can't image why a web developer would create a second link for a 3 year old camera by accident.
It was there for the whole day. The 5D MKII was two times in the pictured list here too: http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/For-You/EOS-Digital-SLR-Cameras

If it were mistake by the coder that doubled the 5D MKII entry on the website, the url would have been the same too. No one can make a mistake to first double the entry and then change the end of the url from "5dmk2" to "6d". I think the announcement is close and Canon is hyping things up like they have done before too.

It's CR2 rumor so that means it's know source for information that has been right in the past.
The thing I don't get is the 4:2:2 video. The XF100 is $3k and the XF300 is $6k+ and they're going to toss in that codec into DSLR's? Makes zero sense unless the price is raised accordingly. $4k+ I just don't see that part happening. I say AVCHD 2.0 at best.

Saw that. CR are also saying Feb 2012 at earliest.

But it doesn't really matter until it comes up on Canon's site with a MRSP

I will be surprised if we don't see 4:2:2 in the 5D successor. Remember, its still 8bit, its not 10 Bit 4:2:2. With the appearance of external recorders, the internal codec debacle ends up being not so crucial (as long as the cameras have hdmi or hdsdi out).

Entering the guessing game, I believe 4:2:2 will be introduced with the upcoming camera to be announced. I don't think its a 1D Mark V, it doesn't make sense and it would devalue Canon's pro users Mark IV investment last year. I see a 1Ds coming, or a 6D. One thing that I have a small concern is in the number. In Canon numbering, the higher the number, the lowwer end it is. So if its called 6D, it should be a product between the 5D and 7D, which should mean a camera without some of 5D's "Pro" features, but with the new technology available in the lower cameras, like sensor crop for video, articulating screen, manual audio...

There was a rumour a few months back about a 4:2:2 mpeg2 codec so at least it's consistent.
If that's the case then Canon should put that codec in their entire line of camcorders as well. If they release it awesome. I'll snap it up. I just think this is not plausible as they have avchd which costs nothing compared to adding hardware for 4:2:2 mpeg2.

AFAIK Canon's still and video are two separate entities, with very little, if any, connexion.

Also according to CR, the 1Ds specs (CR2) say H264 codec.

The rumours (Barely CR1) say that the 5D line will split into two lines optimised for still and video but TBH we're all just blowing hot air until something appears on Canon's own site, preferably with a MSRP

"There was a rumour a few months back about a 4:2:2 mpeg2 codec so at least it's consistent.". There has never been a rumour. Andrew posted an article with the Canon US boss taking a bit freedom regarding in context what he actually said.

It's not overdue at all. The 5DmkII was realeased in late 2008, 3 years after the original 5d. So on a 3-year product cycle, we still have another couple of months before you could consider it 'due', and several more months after that before you could say it is 'overdue'. Then another couple of months before you'd call it 'long overdue'.

Best Buy's pricing cut also came at the same time as the stock market crash, so maybe they are just trying to move some stock to have cash in the bank rather than product on the shelves.

I know this can only get speculative answers but what are people's thoughts on rough expected prices?

same list price. They have the pricing figured out. A 5D has to be expensive enough to make it pro but cheaper than Canon's top of the like. Its like Apple's pricing. The newest is the exact same price as the product it replaces.

I wonder what kind of downsampling we could expect from supermegaextreme 34447744MP sensor they'll put on it for marketing reasons
