Canon 550D video output

Hi,
I'm considering buying the EOS 550D but I heard that the video output signal during recording is SD?
If it's true it would be difficult to focus, is that correct?
Is there anybody who already own this DSLR who can answer me.
Thanks!

I've never used that camera, but from what I've read you're correct: HDMI out while recording is 480p

it could be better, but I think it should be enough for pulling focus: it's about the same resolution of the on-board LCD, and people seem to be able to rack focus by strapping a zfinder or similar to that tiny screen

now, if a 550D/t2i owner pitches in, I would like to ask a relatad question: are there lag / screen refresh issues with that HDMI-out signal? I'm sure I've read from people trying to work with field monitors and getting laggish 1 fps video, but maybe that was because of other pieces of kit they were using between the camera and the monitor (wireless transmitters, perhaps)

(I ask because I already own an H4n, and the 60D is about the same price of a 550D plus a nice marshall 7" monitor...)

Here are my thoughts...

1. Yes, the 550D outputs an SD signal. It's not the best for critical focus but I've had no problems doing it.

2. The screen on the 550D is the same size, and probably the same resolution as the screen on my EX1. And that camera was widely praised for it's ability to focus cleanly without outside assistance. To me, the whole loupe thing is much ado about nothing. But to be fair, my eyes are better than most.

Everyone has to choose their own path. Given my druthers, I'd take a 20" LCD with me in the future, and I may just try that setup here in the near future. Note that the Canon 5D screen is not as good as the 550D and the output from it is no better than the 550D and people seem to do just fine making TV shows and movies with it.

Is there a trick to getting it to work? I have never been able to see it on my HD TV. The LCD on the camera goes blank but the TV never shows the image. I have tried all the in camera setting and no joy. Does it have to be a "super" special version of the cable? I have a standard Mini-HDMI to HDMI.
