Canon 4K C100 for IBC?

If these are correct specs - and this all sounds plausible - then one may as well buy A6300 + an external recorder (+ a small fan and/or a thermal pad and/or a bucket of ice) for video work.

Or whatever new model Sony will premiere.

Re-railing this thread. . .you guys are freakin' me out. I was about to lay down money on a C100 Mk1. IF a 4k whatever was announced, traditionally, when have Canon products been available after the time of the announcement date? 6 months? 9 months? One month?

The turnaround time seems to be much faster for everyone these days (naturally) if the supply is there.

You'll have those situations where everyone wants your camera (RED Raven/Scarlet-W) and you're looking at well into 2017 if you haven't ordered yet.

The 5D Mark IV is supposed to be available in October, so maybe the same for any other announcements from Canon.

Launch date for 5DIV has been said to be 25th.
There was a rumor here earlier this year that claimed C300III by the end of the year, however many interpreted that to be really about C100III as it would fit the previous models release cycle.
IFA (for your mobile cameras ;) ) IBC and photokina all in september. It's been so quiet that I bet we are gonna see lot of new things.
Last year Sony came out with teaser just two weeks before IBC, it ended up being FS5.

I had the 1DX Mark II for a few days and even the 4K wasn't that impressive. I don't know what it was about it, but the image just wasn't there for me. At least not for $6K.

Well, to be fair, the 1DXII is a $6K sports/news STILLS camera designed for shooting stills in some of the harshest and most demanding environments that photographers have to work in, not be a 4K Cinema camera. Regardless of what anyone else feels, thinks, reasons, ANY video functions are gravy. I know "newspaper" photogs that HAVE to use the video function of their still cams to shoot video for their "papers", but most other still photogs I know (that specialize in sports, at least), just shoot stills with them. If I was a professional still photog, I'd have no problem dropping $6K on a 1-series for still work. But there are much better options out there if you need 4K video.

Totally agree with all of that. For photography and all of the features it offers (including the video capabilities for non-cinematographers), it's a bargain.

I was just really expecting it to be something else and I knew on the inside it wasn't going to be, and a hard time accepting that.

It's really frustrating not to be able to make your own camera and include everything you want in it.

...It's really frustrating not to be able to make your own camera and include everything you want in it.

Amen. I know EXACTLY what I want in a camera, but it will never happen in this day and age. And what I want isn't Earth-shattering, it's more hardware design than anything crazy like 16K 1,000FPS RAW that records onto a $5 SD card. ; )

After shooting mirrorless for a while now I just don't think going back to "Live View" and a loupe on the LCD screen is something I would want to do anymore. I have very little hope that Canon wants to push high quality video in a DSLR unless it's a top of the line 1D line camera. I expect the same as we've seen in the past. Lots of disappointment on release day even if 4K is onboard the crippling will just have you shaking your head......

So, on the one hand, 5DMKIV isn't going to be a video-centric model.

On the other, it increases the odds of the aforementioned C100III/200. If Canon announces C500 MKII/C700 in a couple of weeks, then the IBC will be about that while PhotoKina will be mostly about 5DIV. And C100III/200, which will allow the company to separate the hybrids from the cinema line, might indeed be arriving in 16Q4/17Q1. It will cover the sub-$10,000 4K line that is currently very much a Sony domain.

Of course, I've been wrong before. Like, uhm, yesterday. And more than once too.

People in the know are saying "no", but... C100 was announced in August 2012 and C100mkII was announced in October 2014 so it would make sense if they announced a new C100 next month.

Any guesses on the specs? Would they even use the new sensor they used in C300mk2 or would they still rely on the 12 stop sensor they've had in older cameras?

Philip Johnston, who runs the hdwarrior web site is a UK based DP. I'm sure Philip would not have mentioned the IBC C100 III rumor if it was not from a reliable source.

I got one of the first C100s in December of 2104, and it was announced in late August. So four months in that case.

He mentioned the "usual suspects". Which have a very high failure rate with their predictions.

Caveat emptor.

I've had the 1DXmkII for about a month and love it. i do wish it had log but even without it I'm loving the video.

aside from the amazing canon color (i own a ton of canon cameras, glass and a C100) i find the "touch" FD AF incredibly good. i bought the wifi unit and put an iPod Touch in a way that i can easily use a finger to update the "touch AF. i think the AF is the highlight of this camera. shooting wide open @ 1.8 or more and nailing focus tracking thats very impressive and very similar to the C300mkIII.

I'm curious what it was that you didn't care for. true for $6,000 its fair to judge it harder than a $3,000 camera so i can understand that for that much cash you might expect more.

I love Canon and I fell in love with filmmaking when I discovered Canon DSLRs and always felt very natural shooting with them.

I really wanted the 1DC but ended up waiting for the 1DX Mark II. I used A LOT of different cameras during the wait.

I of course didn't hate it, but I guess I just wanted more. I think LOG was the biggest feature that I thought I could live without but couldn't...and this was coming right after a heavy run with Sony mirrorless cameras and S-Log2/3.

The AF is excellent, but I didn't find it perfect...but I don't think you can get any better, ha.

No usable HD mode on the camera isn't ideal. The 120fps is garbage. I didn't like not being able to control audio levels as easily as with the A6300/A7SII (unless I missed something). A UHD mode would have been nice.

Sometimes people refer to an image having texture or richness or depth...and I wasn't feeling it here.

I can't imagine a 5D mkIV having a better video image than a C100. When downsampled I think they'll look the same. But that begs the question, why buy a 5D mkIV when you can already get a C100 that is better suited for video anyway?
Especially if it turns out the 5D mkIV can only do 4K in a super35 crop.

I feel like so many of us still have this obsession with the 5D even though it's about the same price and not as flexible as the C100 for video.
Where is this continued obsession with wanting the 5D to be a great video camera coming from?

I can't imagine a 5D mkIV having a better video image than a C100.

It seems it will be a bit of both. All points to the 5D mkIV getting at least UHD at 422 8bit with the MJPEG we've seen in the 1Dc and Dx mkII.

If it gets the expected 1:1 pixel readout at UHD or 4k DCI, the image will have more detail and be more robust than that from a C100 (mkI or mkII). But the C100 will still look more cinematic with Canon Log. At least out of the box.
