Canon 24mm STM lens is extremely soft

Just bought the 24mm and 50mm STM lenses, the 50mm is great, nice and sharp. But the 24mm is so soft, even with manual focus it lacks sharpness big time. Have anyone else experienced the same issue?

I just bought this lens 2 days ago and I think it's pretty sharp for filming (haven't tried stills)...which camera are you using?

Something wrong in you tests. The 24mm STM wide open at 2.8 is significantly sharper than the 50mm wide open at 1.8

Once you close down the 50mm to f2.8 to f8, it becomes as sharp as the 24mm (the 24 is slightly sharper but not a practically visible difference)

In any words the 24mm is a very sharp lens even for 20mp (6K) and definitely sharp enough for 720p-1080p resolution video on Canon DSLRs.

I am using the 70D, tried both auto and manual focusing and it's definitely soft. This is exactly why I posted this to find out if something could be wrong with the lens I bought. My 50mm is much sharper. I am taking it back for an exchange.
