1DC: Canon 1DC - recording stops suddenly

On my last couple of shoots (happened again tonight), my 1DC gave me an error message a few seconds after hitting record. Something like "Recording has automatically stopped." I had plenty of space on the CF card and I had freshly formatted it in the camera.

I'm using a SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB 160MB/s, 4K, 24fps, C-Log.

Anyone have this problem? Any solutions/suggestions?

Thanks.

Either the sensor was overheating, or there's something wrong with the CF card.

I heard Canon DSLRs work best with 128GB or less CF cards, you can still use 256GB models but if you format it in camera, only 128GB is usable, also there may be some stability issues.

According to spec, 256GB one has lower write speed than other capacities, so i guess the hardware implementation is different.

That's weird. I get the full 256GB capacity from the cards. I doubt it's overheating as it happens even when the camera has been off for a while.

Seems like writing speed of the CF cannot catch up with the 1DC, is the card new or have you used it for long period with no problem? Try recording at lower resolution yet? Try a older CF at lower speed see if the same error occur, then try with another 128CF.

Also I am not too happy with Sandisk in the last year or so, me and my friend have been RMAing the 64 GB SD cards, I actually lost count. Any my friendly shop keeper was saying they were returning a lot of these. Seems like sandisk are not testing their new product too thoroughly.

Also the price of a sandisk 256 CF is getting very near to 2nos of transcend 128 at shops now. Make me worry. I am about to get one soon, I better keep the cash in my pocket first.

According to benchmark from Magic Lantern forum, Hoodman Steel 64GB CF card 1000x is drastically faster than Sandisk Extreme Pro 1067x.
