Canon announced new firmware for the 1DC today.

1DC cameras will need to be sent in to one of the Cinema EOS Service Centers to be updated.

EOS-1D X firmware Version 2.0.7 and EOS-1D C firmware Version 1.3.9

Firmware update Version 2.0.7 for the EOS-1D X and Version 1.3.9 for the EOS-1D C incorporates the following improvements and fixes:
  1. Improves the AF controllability when shooting in Live View using a wide-angle (single focal length or zoom) lens.
  2. Fixes a phenomenon where vertical lines appear on the right edge of captured images (still photos) in the case of shooting with a long exposure (several minutes).
  3. Fixes a phenomenon where the AEB doesn’t work properly in the case of AEB continuous shooting with a long exposure (more than 1 second).
  4. Fixes a phenomenon where there is a yellow cast on captured images (still photos) depending on the shooting environment and subject.
  5. Fixes a phenomenon where the level display doesn’t work properly.
  6. Fixes a phenomenon where, in ‘Save and read camera settings’, the ‘Custom shooting mode (C1-C3)’ colour space data is not saved.
  7. Fixes the incorrect indications on the English and Russian menu screens (Note: the Russian menu is not available for Japanese models).

I guess the 1DC still lags the 1Dx from the prior firmware -- where they improved autofocus on the 1Dx.

could someone care to explain why is required to send in your camera for a firmware update?

Huh... Ok, so, I've never seen "phenomenons" 2 through 7. What the heck does the improvement for wide angle live view AF mean? Is it worth the not insubstantial (and absurd) shipping costs to send in the 1DC?

Some areas/sellers offer free shipping

It would be very strange if the new 1Dc firmware doesn't catch up with "old" 1Dx firmware stuff. If anyone talks to CPS/a service center before I get a chance, feel free to update this thread with information.

Since the 1Dc now get the newest 1Dx updates, I fully expect feature parity with the old stuff...

Last I communicated with Canon (after the 1DX update that improved focusing) I was told that the firmwares were independent of each other and that they then never updated the 1DC to catchup to the 1Dx.

If you're in Boston you should be able to ship yours to the NJ service center(I presume they can do the update at any CPS service center) via ground in one, maybe two days, for literally pocket change. I've started shipping almost all of my gear by ground if it doesn't need to be there 'yesterday'. It's a fraction of overnight costs and almost everywhere I need to ship to on the east coast, even into the Midwest is usually two days at the most via ground.

Yes it sucks that you have to send it in for something simple like a firmware update(Canon should cover that cost, because every other camera they make the user can update it themselves and this is an artificial limitation they are imposing) , but shipping costs aren't necessarily "absurd".

Yeah, my "absurd and not insubstantial" comment was in comparison to "free and instantly over the internet".

If you insure the shipping for the value of the camera the shipping do become absurd. I am not doing this unless someone can confirm hat the camera now has caught up to the 1Dx latest firmware updates.

It's almost as bad as the F5 internal 4K deal. Instead of setting it up so you can buy the unlock key over the internet, you have to buy it through a dealer and have the form with the code sent to you. I don't have a 5, but me and my dealer were just talking about it. They only received FOUR in the initial shipment from Sony. Sony reverting to being Sony...

Canon still hasn't updated their website in the US with this supposed firmware update. Has anybody been contacted about the new firmware?

Does anyone have any hope for audio over HDMI for the 1DC? The 7D2 can do it now. I'm doing my best to bang down canons doors for this feature. If other 1DC users (yes all 7 of us) did the same, maybe we could get that feature.

Adding new features will not happen, as development specifically for 1D C has discontinued, they only do maintenance (fixing bugs in existing firmware).

So, does that mean that the new 1DC firmware doesn't actually exist? I mean, I realize that Canon would rather just forget that the 1DC exists, but it can't be that hard to add the same code change from the 1DX firmware to the 1DC firmware even though they are "different" cameras.

Well, you will never find the firmware online - it's been mentioned before.

You have to update the 1Dc via Canon CPS or service center. Canon has taken this route so that the firmware won't leak. Pressumaby in fear of seeing all the 1Dxes hacked into 1Dcs.
