Canon 1DC crop modes - surprise!

macgregor,
I did not know that the resolution transfers into color information, that's a breackthrough :)

in Super 35, the crop factor is 1.6, so crop lenses can be used, correct? For example Canon17-55 2.8 ?

Banding at iso 400 is lowest, does it mean that going to iso 100, and iso 1200 will create same amount of banding?

You should be fine with APSC lenses... that are not canon. I'm not an expert in canon APSC glass, but I think it doesn't work like Nikon where you can still attach a DX lens into a full frame nikon body. In a Canon 5D you cannot put a Canon APSC lens. However, I think you could be fine with 3rd party APSC lenses such as sigma or tamron. But test this before damaging the body.

The lowest ISO you should select on the 1DC and canon log is 400. If you go lower than that you'll be losing dynamic range in the highlights. It works the same way on the C300 (below 850ISO).

Posterization/banding is a codec issue, I don't believe it has anything to do with the sensor. I have to say that under high detail scenes the codec is really nice, it's only in flat clean shots were it becomes a problem. Recording to an external recorder should fix this... bu tthen again, I don't want to carry an external recorder if I'm shooting with a DSLR...
