S35 mode uses the ALL-I, or the IPB compression, so I didn't like them very muchThank you for all of the great tests and review. Did you have a chance to compare the 1DC in S35 mode to the C300? I'm curious to know if they look the same when shooting in S35.

I'm sure the C300 is better, of you use the 1Dc in cropped mode.
There is a spot in the review where the 1d-c is compared to the c300 (shot of old car). The c300 has a zeiss at f2.8 and the 1d-c has a canon at f2.8, I wonder if the sharpness difference is a testament to the lensses or the cameras. Circumstantially, I'd assume it was the Zeiss out resolving the Canon.S35 mode uses the ALL-I, or the IPB compression, so I didn't like them very much

Nice peek. Great for whetting client appetites. Vey nice layout. Makes all the other reviews difficult to read.

Also, I like the idea of a quad HD resolution and aspect ratio, for those shooting for multiple formats, ie mastering to HD but archiving in 4k.
I might have missed it, but there's nothing in the review that says that you shouldn't use the camera at less than ISO400, when in 4K + C-log mode, it causes banding and loss of DR as Philip Bloom found out the hard way.
I had the chance to work with the 1DC yesterday on a corporate shoot and coming from mainly using "video cams" I had to say using the 1DC was awesome. I really liked the image straight out of the camera which was important since all editing had to be done on-site as well immediately after shooting. I found it matched really great with a 5D in the same settings.
Hmm, do you have a link? Similar findings were true on the D800, but most likely for different reasons. 8bit 8 bit 8 bit. cough. I hate 8bit, but not as much as 6bit. 8bit at least gets us in the ball park. I can't believe the C300 is 8bit.I might have missed it, but there's nothing in the review that says that you shouldn't use the camera at less than ISO400, when in 4K + C-log mode, it causes banding and loss of DR as Philip Bloom found out the hard way.
haven't seen banding, but the 1D C manual tells something about the DR:
"When Canon Log gamma is set, dynamic range will be approx. 800% at ISO 320 or higher"
"Also, noise may be decreased when you shoot at ISO speed lower than ISO 320 (even though the dynamic range will be narrowed"
So yes, maybe ISO 320 is the Base sensitivity for the sensor, but we don't know it for sure.
Have you used it in 4K mode by the chance?
Thank you. That was definiately the lens..sadly. That was one of our first tests, and I though that the C300 is sharper. But then we did another comparison with the 50mm/85mm, and they were equally sharp.
Also I think the 1Dc doesn't apply any sharpening in-camera for the 4K footage, so it might need a touch of sharpness in post.
mk2 or mk3?It wasn't my camera and I only got to use it for this one shoot. But I will definitely try 4k out with it next time. It's impressive that the 1080p footage (downscaled from 4k sensor) matched the 5D so well,.. I can't get over that.
