Am going to buy the C100 and need to get a lens. Someone suggested the above Rebel kit lens. I know, $500 lens on a $6500 camera. But the reviews overall seem quite positive. Great range. Pain about the non-fixed aperture. Curious how the "Dymanic IS" works with video. Supposed to be good for walking shots, etc.

Cheers.

Is the 24-104mm f/4L out of your price range?

Because from what I've read, it's a great run and gun type lens on the C100.

I'm also looking to pick up the C100 soon and am also looking for a lens to go with it.

The Tamron 17-50 2.8 IS might be good. Mine is the old non-IS version and it sure looks nice to me.

Based on how sensitive the C-series cameras are, I'd say that 18-135mm lens would be a good walk-around choice, especially if you pair it with a 35mm prime for low-light ability.

sorry to be a negative nancy but the 18-135mm is 'average' at best. All-right ... I'll be honest, I hate that lens. Its about as lame as they get.
to answer mhood, non-fixed aperture is not really a problem because you won't be 'zooming' with a still zoom lens, u need a cine zoom for that. Plus the relatively noise free high ISO allows you to use a sub-par lens as a fixed aperture at say ... f5.6

edit:
If you are on a budget, stick with 2 or 3 primes that are worth $400+ ea. as you get what you pay for. At the very minimum you spend close to a grand on each zoom if you want a chance at avoiding CA.

As mentioned earlier, the 24-105 / f4 L series might be the lens for you.

2nd edit:
If you really really must go cheap on a zoom get the 15-85mm

I just read your earlier post and you've already got the 17-50 non-IS tamron. Why don't you get the 85mm f1.8 to complement it ?

Actually, I was thinking about the 70-200 f/4 L IS because I often shoot speakers from the back of a ballroom. But I do like the way a prime makes you hunt shots instead of frame shots.

Have you tried the lens on the C300/100? The reviews I read were not so scathing ... and in fact reviews of the 17-55 2.8 and the 24-105 4.0 showed those lenses have flaws as well. Not that I've tried any of them!!

I just got the 24-105, and I'm finding it to be great for capturing people and settings.
