Canon 10-18mm

Anybody here have experience with the Canon 10-18mm lens for video?

All the reviews I've read say it the IQ is better than all the other APS-C ultrawides, including the very popular Tokina 11-16, despite the very low price.

It's good. I have both that and the Tokina 11-16. I'm not sure why, but I'll always go for the Tokina unless weight is an issue (gimbal stabilizer). Better manual focusing maybe. Or I just like the f2.8 which helps you get some depth of field on a wide angle. I thought the IS would be good to have over the Tokina, but quite frankly, I can't see that it actually does anything.

Is the Tokina worth the extra money? Probably not.

I have the series for my C100: 10-18stm, 18-135 stm, 55-250 stm. They are great for quick, handheld, b-roll shots or times when you need really great IS. Focus by wire, which can be annoying, but it also means that Canon cameras attempt to maintain the focus while zooming. The 10-18 has a ton of vignetting so it is best to use with peripheral illumination correction. It has less distortion than other lenses available. It's really light. I also have the 11-20 tokina, but I would tend to use the lenses for different purposes.

If you're using a Canon mount camera with a s35/APS-C sensor, this is the wide angle for you. Even if you already own the tokina get one, just as a back up and for the Image stabilization.

Thanks everyone. Looks like it could be the UWA I end up with. Now I just need to decide if I should get this one, or a FF lens instead. I'm shooting with the FS700/Speedbooster and the A7s. It would make life easier having a FF lens like the 17-40 because then the Speedbooster never has to come off the FS700.

It does look like a neat little lens though.

I have absolutely no information about the compatibility of the stm lenses on adapters. It is a very electronically operated lens, so you might want to check how it operates on a Sony if you haven't already. Without the peripheral illumination correction, focus tracking during zooming, iris correction during zooming, etc, I don't think the 10-18 stm would be nearly as useable as it is on a C100.

Worked great on my FS100. No AF on that camera of course but the IS and focus by wire.

I like mine too. The build is obviously not that of the L series but it is pretty small and light which my shoulder is thankful for.
