C200: Cannot turn off display over SDI output since Firmware 1.71

Hi all

On a shoot, using the C200 as a live stream cam.
HDMI is going into a monitor, no display overlay, it’s fine. SDI is going to VMix Live.

Downloaded the new 1.71 FW. No matter what I change,
I cannot get rid of the display overlays in the SDI out only? Is this a bug? Anyone using the
C200 with HDMI and SDI output w the new 1.71 FW? What am I doing wrong?

I found the same thing. Thought I was missing something. I looked around the menus a few times and couldn't find a way to turn the overlays off.

This same issue just popped up in the C200 group on FB. Here's what someone wrote:

...with the firmware update you cannot output SDI clean, so you can have the HDMI without all the menu's/data etc, but the SDI will keep them up. If you use SDI only, you won't have that issue.

Thanks QuickHit Record. I find the exact same thing, I just got home, hooked up SDI only to monitor, turned off "SDI Output Always On" and the output is clean.
i'm going to consider this a BUG as I cannot fathom all of the C200 users like myself who might want clean output on both HDMI and SDI for dozens of reasons.
If it was the other way around and you could output SDI clean or overlay and HDMI with overlay only, that would be better for my situation although that would
scrrew all of those users with HDMI only recorders.

So ridiculous, how can they give us what we've asked for for years and then only give it 50% functionality? It's maddening. Totally screwing me over for the next week, our vMix Live system
has a BMD SDI 8 input SDI only capture card for going to live stream so that must be clean and I was using HDMI out on four C200s to my ATEM MP so me and my other camera ops could all see
each others shots. So I guess I can send signal for live stream but we are screwed for seeing each others shots. I should have rented C300 MKIIs or MKIIIs but we were already pushing budget with
four C200s. Sigh. So close, yet so far.

Yes, but it doesn't affect output to SDI, only to the LCD screen and EVF. You can get rid of everything but standby/record and if you adjust iris or other ops, the overlays pop up, then pop off after a few seconds. But that damn standby/record bones you.

That sucks. I think on the 300 the hard button is a universal On/Off, plus there's the menu setting for it being fed out on SDI & HDMI and/or the on-board LCD. I'm from the school of thought that every output should be able to be 'clean'.

100% agree. Everyone wants an HDMI on-board recorder (clean) and an SDI feed to director's monitor or video village or live streaming or a million other things (clean).
Now we just have to wonder is this a bug, bureaucratic oversight or product crippling?

I just ordered three BMD two way HDMI to SDI and SDI to HDMI convertors to defeat this. I can take clean either SDI or HDMI and get it to our Live Stream system via SDI and to my ATEM MP via HDMI. Thanks for making me spend hundreds of extra dollars
Canon to accomplish what your firmware should have ;-(

It’s a little gangly, but you could always pick up 4 of these guys and just split your HDMI feeds coming out of the C200s. I’ve been doing hacks like this lately on live ATEM mini shoots that have forced me to play exclusively in HDMI land:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Powered-Splitter-1080P-Model/dp/B004F9LVXC?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_6

I bought a couple at Best Buy in a pinch (different model) and they worked great. Some models have an AC adapter like the one I linked to above and other ones are powered via USB so I bongo tied a little USB battery stick to one of my operators rig and did the powered split right there at the camera and ran one HDMI into my Teradek wireless transmitter so I could monitor his camera and then sent the other one via a long HDMI cable to the ATEM mini Pro.

One important note is to make sure the splitter has a powered solution as I think that is needed to actively duplicate the signal (the power also helps if you’re sending down a long cable as well)

Thanks for the suggestion but our vMix Live system has the BMD 8 input SDI capture card so I need 3G SDI to feed that and HDMI to feed our ATEM MP.
I have four of these https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...hdwpsu_blackmagic_design_micro_converter.html coming monday that will do the trick.
But it's more cables, power supplies, points of failure, hassle and expense to fix what Canon should have given to C200 owners free. Canon crippleware strikes again!
