Can you view 7d footage live on any monitos with HDMI?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm going to get a 7d soon and was wondering if I can use my 22 inch HD computer monitor to view the footage live as I'm recording? Does it need to be connected to a computer, and if so, does it need any special software?

Of course, You will need to see if you need a MiniHDMI to HDMI or maybe to DVI for the monitor. You would need a HDMI capture card to actually monitor it with the computer (and software).
 
Just realise this is an standard def signal.
7D/5D don't output FULL HD during recording.


p.s. There is a way with Syndicate/matrox solution but it requires a computer and matrox box.
 
I thought the 7d outputted 1080i on the lcd during recording?

I've got a 5d, which does 480p i think it is and was hoping the upcoming firmware update would give 1080i during recording like the 7d.

Here we go again. I have hooked up my 7D via HDMI to an Ikan 5600 and to the new 9" they are letting me test. It is indicating full HD input to the monitor while recording. The image does not change between setting up and hitting record. If in Info mode, the image is smaller due to all the Info running along the side. Without Info, the image is ALMOST full screen, just a small border around. In playback, full, edge to edge screen is used. Thing of beauty. All HD.

Ditto. No change in display between setting up and recording....and the screen size ONLY changes when all the info is displayed...and even then it's a nice size to work with.
