GH1 Can you still buy the GH1 anywhere?

I'm in Toronto and I've scoured every camera shop, and no one sells the GH1.
Unless there's some kind of secret password I have to say, did they stop selling them at stores?

I'm just looking to buy a cheap but good camera body. I'm selling most of my gear except lenses and I just want a good body.

Should I even bother or stick to the GH2? I was considering doing the hack, but I'm pretty useless when it comes to any kind of programing/firmware updating.

What's a better choice. GH13 or GH2?

If this has been covered..well.. I must be pretty bad at finding stuff then.
 
I thought about buying it online as a last resort. It's strange, I'm 24 and I've never owned a credit card. I'm just mulling the options between the GH13 or the GH2

Any suggestions?

I don't have a credit card, just debit :) GH13 is much more available and gets great image quality for much less price. GH2 is hard to find but significantly better in low light.
 
Shooting with a GH over a camcorder is a whole new world. If you astute at the functions of a still camera, you are at least halfway there. If you aren't, welcome to the club, you got tons to learn too. :-) If you already can run around a still cam with ease, go for the GH2 and make it sing. If not, learn on a GH13 and jump to the GH3 when it becomes available.

Remember, the body is the cheap part of this whole gig....the real fun and expense is in the lenses.
 
One note about the one being sold at B&H. It's probable that the hack won't work on those as I think Panasonic tied up the loophole with their firmware. I have one on the way (need a cheap balcony cam) and hope I'm wrong. If I were choosing a GH model to get as my main camera, I think I'd look towards the GH2 as it has ETc mode that you can use to get rid of vignetting on c mount lenses.

All GH1s are now hackable since Vitaliy made this possible. I bought one from that exact B&H posting two weeks ago and hacked it. It works.
 
And with that, my day just got 200% better. I'll have to look up all the goodies that are in the hack. Does it have a version of the ETC mode?

Nope. Mostly it just makes the video quality amazing.

Take a look at the short I have linked in my signature. All shot with a hacked GH1, streaming on Vimeo in 1080p so you can really see the image you get from the camera (obviously I graded the footage and such, but the sharpness is all the camera's doing).
 
CColton, that's a real good looking image. Has anyone with a Mac computer hacked their GH1? Or is that a total n00b question? Most of the instructions are for PC

Search the hack forum, it can be done using something called Winebottler, but I'm not a Mac person, so I don't know how. But it's definitely feasible.
