Can you record straight to powerbook

I did a search and couldn't find much on just recording straight to laptop to external hard drive....

is this possible with a power book w/ final cut 5.04 ... how big would the files be for 1080i 24p ?
 
I'm not certain that that particular size and frame rate works with 5.0.4, but anything you can record out of firewire, which means no pNative, will be recorded directly to a PB.

I would get a PC Cardbus Firewire card to separate the cam from the same bus the FW external is on, and make certain that is a fast FW capture HDD.

DVCProHD 1080i60/24p is 11.52 MBytes/sec
