Yes.
Yes, native 16:9 DV is also called "anamorphic".
You get full SD 16:9 DV quality. same resolution as 4:3 but with the proper 16:9 aspect ratio.

So when recording 16:9 on tape, is the picture recorded anamorhic, to use the full bandwith?
Have you done it? I´m asking, because the Panasonic description of the tape recorder only states 576 recording.

In PAL, it's 720x576 with a 1.457 pixel aspect ratio. PAL 4:3 is 720x576 with a 1.093 pixel aspect ratio.

DVCPRO 50 looks better than DV, yes. And yes, it, too, is anamorphic when widescreen.

Just so there is no confusion, the HVX cannot record DVCPro50 to tape. The only thing it can record on tape is DV.
