C100: Can you pick out the GH2, GH3 and Canon C100 Footage?

I just did this quick test as I was trying to match my GH2 and GH3 to my Canon C100. I was surprised at how easy it was to do. Check out the video here: https://vimeo.com/62571524

Because of the aliasing in the first shot I knew that wasn't the c100 and because of super crushed blacks in the third shot I knew it wasn't c100. Setting up the same shot with A and B cams usually doesn't illustrate their difference in image quality, set up a sequence and the audience will be able to tell.

Gh3, c100, gh2

I could tell the GH2 because of the almost hyper sharpness of the image. The C100 because of the bokeh and dynamic range, and the GH3 was just a process of elimination.

To my eyes, the C100 had the best image of all, with the GH3 coming in a close second. The GH2 footage was very easy to pick out - it looked rough compared to the C100/GH3 images. But most definitely the average man or woman
wouldn't be able to notice the difference, nor would they care much even if they could. The upshot of the test, from an image quality standpoint, is that the GH3 is the camera to get if you like doing DSLR-type video (and the C100
is really just an overgrown DSLR) but can't afford a C100.

Good test, agree with most that in most instances the audience could care less what camera was used. Even lighting, composition, and the edit are secondary, what matters most is what's happening inside the frame.

That being said, I used the GH3 for the first time last weekend and although the image is quite nice for the price, I didn't care for the ergonomics or the build compared to the C100 which I love. For me, that stuff matters. I want to enjoy using a camera that I pick up a few times a week, not struggle with all the additional accessories and build-ons in order to save a few bucks on the body.

I think it's an interesting comparison. I can really see a difference in DR between the two Pannys (with the GH3 being better, not surprisingly). I've been shooting for a couple of weeks with a GH3 and a C100, and although the C100 is hands-down the winner in terms of DR (and overall IQ), the GH3 holds up well as a B camera, particularly because the higher bit-rate gives me more data in the shadows to recover.

this post sickens me, I loath the logic: "the audience wont tell the difference" good visual storytelling is psychological manipulation, if you don't understand that watch movies and don't make them.

Isn't the point that each camera can get pretty darn good results? What sickens you about someone shooting the same scene with 3 cameras? Psychological manipulation? What does that have to do with comparing 3 cameras?

I couldn't decide between 1 and 3, but was sure #2 was the C100 because the talent saw the "real" video camera and decided to act :)

In all seriousness, I think you did a very good match and could use those cameras together well.
