GH4 Can you disable the shutter record?

Howdy,

So far I'm loving my new GH4. One thing I would love to do is, when in creative movie mode, disable the record functionality of the shutter button. Is this possible? The reason I ask is because, when using a Lumix lens, I can half-press the shutter to auto-focus, but if I accidentally press the shutter all the way it stops the recording. I'd rather use the red Record button on the back of the camera to start & stop the recording, and leave the shutter button to control autofocus.

Does this make sense? Am I crazy?

Thanks in advance!

Makes sense. Having focus on a different button than start stop makes sense.

I also would like to use the record button in 'A' mode to shoot 4K advanced movies. Switching the mode between stills and movie all the time is no fun.

Easy enough to do. Configure so AE/AF button does autofocus "lock". One press does S-AF then locks and switches to manual focus. Second press clears and goes back to normal half press of shutter button to do autofocus.

Configure for S-AF + MF ASSIST and while in "lock" mode you get the magnified view when the focus ring is adjusted. Half press of shutter button clears back to normal view. Full press of shutter button starts and stops recording, MF can be adjusted but without magnified view once recording is started. Use of an LCD loupe could make MF while recording easier to "see".

I have my GH3 and GX7 set up this way and love it. Best of autofocus and manual focus with one button.

GH4 on the way!!!

i do similar to bruce but yeah your still inclined to accidentally hit the record button too hard while focusing causing recording to stop. It's strange how you can set the red record button for movie but not the shutter.
