the dvx have an option when the lcd flip open, the evf will be off.
this will help to save battery, is there an option with hmc 150.
cant seem to find it.

On the plus side, the waveform monitor only appears on the LCD so you can have that on and film with your right eye in the EVF seeing the footage and your left eye watching your levels :).

I think there is an option to turn this off when it's being used. Almost positive there is as I was shooting with a friends 150 and he has his setup like this. I think it's possible, just like it's possible to turn the viewfinder black and white. I think you have this option ya'll.

I looked through pretty much all the possible menus for something like this and didn't find anything to turn it off.

I was just trying to figure out how to turn off the EVF and found this thread to confirm the lack of any mention in the manual. It's such a waste of battery life since I hardly ever look through the viewfinder!

Do you think that by setting the brightness and contrast to -16, it will save some battery life since it will practically be a dark image in the viewfinder?

Haven't tried, but it's one to easily verify since the battery reads out to the minute how long it'll last... so get a reading, then shrink down the settings and see if the battery reading changes any...

Barry, is this something that could be re-optioned if you wish with a firmware update. It seems logical that it could be done and it would be a nice choice on saving the old Lithium power!

Sure seems reasonable, but -- we haven't really seen *any* new features added to the AG lineup through firmware updates, other than the flash band compensation on the HPX300. So while it seems possible, I don't know that I'd hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

that is a bit funny because I could do this on the HVX. I do think though that these batteries do last a lot longer than they did on the HVX.

Surely the amount of power consumed is only about 1% of the total, can't see the point in having the option to be honest.

It doesn't seem like it would be very hard to implement since it was a feature on the HVX's, I believe. It just needs a menu option in the Display menu or even be a function of the LCD button on the side of the camera... it's current use is either for LCD backlight or LCD flipping... they could just add an extra option for toggling the EVF on and off(!) That would be very nice of Panasonic to add in their next firmware update
