Can the HVX200A dual record on P2 and tape at the same time? Also is there anything better in the 200a than the 170. Thanks

No. You can dub P2 footage to DV tape (only SD footage, not HD).

Point of clarification -- when using the dubbing feature, it copies HD footage from the P2 card, and downconverts it to SD and dubs it onto the tape.

You can't copy standard-def from the P2 card to the tape deck in-camera, but you can copy HD footage over (with the understanding that it will of course be downconverted to SD during the process).

That's interesting. I purchased a 200a recently and I haven't tried to dub yet. Is there a reason why you can't dub P2 SD to DV?

you can however shoot in sd to p2 and connect a cheapo mini dv camcorder (or dvx 100 or something) via fire wire and record to the extra camera while recording to internal p2. You can also record to an fs100, a computer, or anything else you can connect via firewire while recording.
