Can someone provide side-by-side comparison between HMC150 and Canon 7D?

It is just a matter of time for me to get a second camera based on SLR. I am most curious in the following:

1). 7D is single CMOS? so how does the color compare to HMC150/HVX170? Is 7D less punchy than 3CCD? I really love the color of my HMC150 when compared to SONY HDR-HC3. Any green-screen with the 7D?
2). Resolution. I do expect 7D to be better, but how much? Is the difference obvious on a 46" LCD TV?
3). Low-light performance?
4). Most important thing for me, potentially deal-breaker. How difficult to manually focus with the Canon 7D? Imagine a beautiful chick walking (medium speed) to you from 30 ft away and how difficult to focus?

Thanks!

Im sure someone will when a 150 owner gets a 7d or vice-versa. I think there are like 3 people that actually own a 7d production model at this point in time :)

I know 7D can't be used as a primary camera due to CMOS sensor and other things, but it is still a terrific camera with full raster for under $2,000. I want to definitely make sure it is a good one before opening my wallet.

Take it for what it is, its not a full fledged video camera regardless. Its no replacement or comparison to the HMC just like the GH1 is no comparison either. And it has nothing to do with the CMOS. The EX1 the HPX300 are CMOS.

i can maybe do it this weekend. i'll have my 7d tomorrow morning but i'm working on a lot of post production right now so it may be a few days before i can get serious with it.

I asked a friend that just got his on monday to do some side by side, He's doing an event this weekend and will bring the 7D along his 150!!!

James - thanks for posting this.

Clearly the 7D looks good providing it's used within it's limitations (as is the case with everything).

The rolling shutter is still the thing that bothers me - and you can see it even in these shots - but as long as the shooting avoids the problem shots - the 7D will make a great tool.

The last shot with 9db on the 151 looks nasty and the 7D at ISO1600 clearly kicks the 151s butt.

There were clear artifacts in the last (ISO1600) 7D footage. Hopefully they are the result of re compressing for vimeo rather than from the source footage it self.

I think they both look great, but the color on the hmc150 is a bit more cinematic to my eye.

That said, I think they both are great cameras. I hope they've improved the compression on the 7d since the pre-production model, which had a ton of artifacts/macroblocking despite 48mbit/sec.

The hmc150 is limited to 24mbit/sec and looked way better (to the pre-prod). Afaik canon doesn't implement B-frames in the GOP of their h.264 which severely limits quality. Why they do this, I do not know.

Because of that, you can't compare megabits. The HMC150's 24 megabits are going to be much more resilient and robust than the 48mbps on the 7D, specifically because of the B-frame issue.

That's easy to answer: Processing power.
