Hello I see all these numbers around like 4:2:2 and 3:2 and 2:2:2 and I am not sure what all that means. I am looking to buy a XH A1 and was wondering if it is able to transfer footage to editing and eventually dvd or film. And if so what would I need to do I will be using premeire pro. Thanks all.

See here for some info on pulldown

But only the 3:2 numbers in your post are related to pulldown. 4:2:2 is describing colour sub-sampling, which is a way of saving bandwidth by sampling the colour data less frequently (in this case half) than the luminance data.

As for 2:2:2, I haven't come across that one before. Where did you see it?

And for your other question, yes the XH-A1 footage can be edited in Premiere Pro. It can then be converted into any output format you want. Whether PPro supports the A1 24p footage directly I am not sure, so hopefully someone else will respond.

The latest update of Premiere Pro CS3 supports all the shooting modes of the XHA1, including 24p and 30p. For DVD delivery, you just edit your footage and output a DVD compliant file. The best results I've gotten have been to downconvert my final HD project using After Effects, then burn my disc in Adobe Encore.
