Can someone help me with a DVX200 prepurchase question?

Hi

In my area, there is no demo unit to try out ... could some tell me if ...

When you have a Firestore or backup firewire drive connected, do you also have to have a miniDV tape in and or a P2 card to record ... or can you record with no media in the 200 and only a Firestore?

I have read the 200's Operation manual, but nothing is jumping out to answer my question.

The 200's manual refers to a backup recording to firewire drive attached while a tape is insetred.

Then no media has to in the 200 to record?

Does this mean any compatible firewire drive (1394.axSBP2) can be used, or only firestore and citidisk (shining technologies)?

And if any compatible drive, then I need software to translate the 200's P2 format for dvcpro50 and dcvproHD to avi's for my NLE?

You need a FireStore or Cineporter to achieve this. Don't know much about the CitiDISK, but these are not bare firewire drives.

You can't simply attach any hard drive to the FW port and record to it any format.
