I do some live event work with two cameras, and usually I have to sync the footage by visual and audio cues, which is rather tedious. On my last job I decided to try syncing by timecode instead. There were two cameras, an A1 and a DV500, both set to Free-run NDF mode recording at 60i. My theory is that even though the timecode will be reset at different time (and both cameras start recording at different time), I'll only have to sync the videos once and timecode on subsequent clips will be offset by the same amount of time and I can just sync the rest that way.
After syncing the first segment of the show, I found that the two tracks were roughly 21 seconds apart and I arranged the next segment accordingly, but it doesn't fit. After syncing it manully, time the two tracks were more than a minute apart. Am I missing something?
Both cameras were left on for the duration of the show. I'm almost certain there were no operator error, so my understanding of timecode is probably off. Can someone clarify?
