Can somebody help me with this?

PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks everyone.

Just random bs test footage, but noticing some hard strobing on girl's legs and arms during movement of camera (second and third shots particularly). You can clearly notice this, was wondering what is causing it.

Settings: 720/24p, -7 Detail, +7 V. Detail, -7 D. Coring, was using Fig Rig OIS on.

Thanks.

shutter speed? I don't know but man that looks like terrible footage. What kind of compression settings were you using?

:bath:

2nd shot: Shutter 1/500
3rd shot: Shutter 1/48

Don't think it's compression settings, as I saw this on original footage. Maybe I was panning too quickly on second shot? Have heard that you need to turn OIS off for tripod/stabilized use, but kept it on for the first time using Fig Rig. These detail settings never caused that before, so I'm gonna try Fig with OIS off.

not noticing any strobing.
see the folds in her jacket and pants going through light and dark as she moves, but that is from the light hitting it combined with pretty extreme contrast.

your settings are very strange.
basically, you've maxed out the sharpness/noise with coring at -7 and you've goosed the vertical detail to the limit which will make all vertical edges uber sharp and skewed contrast-wise.

did you use an ND filter?

Yes Averan, that's the exact problem I was speaking of, sorry for saying strobing.

Yeah, did use ND filter, I believe it was 1/16. I'm going to tone down the V. Detail to 0, don't like the D. Coring much - prefer the softer focus. I appreciate all the feedback, you guys rock.

Took some more test footage with V. Detail at 0 - MUCH, MUCH BETTER. Thanks Averan, that was exactly the tune up my cam needed.

I like the softer focus achieved by having my Detail set to -7. Plus, as the HMC150 book says, Coring will not do much if the Detail level is low. It is however, now at 0 along with V. Detail.

Why not have the V detail down as well then?

I tend to shoot:

H Detail -2
V Detail -2
Coring +2

normally you shouldn't have to touch VDetail. that skews the vertical detail independent of the horizontal. Detail adjusts both horizontal and vertical together.

if you mess with VDetail much independently of Detail then you're gonna get some extreme results with all vertical lines of contrast.

if you want a sharper image, coring can have very dramatic effects. reducing coring will create a sharper image overall, much more effectively imo than detail which really only affects the contrast at high-contrast edges and outlines. reducing coring is the same as throwing on a sharpen filter in post and will create noise or insanely amplify existing noise in low-light shots.

I was under the impression that the detail setting on the HMC150 was a horizontal detail not a combined setting.

OK, I looked it up. I must have misread that somewhere. You are correct. Detail affects both.

I'll have to recheck my current settings.
