Can Red Focus Squares Be Used on LCD??

Hi,
I would like to know if there is a setting for viewing/using the red focus squares on the Canon 7D LCD instead of the viewfinder. If so, could you "please" walk me through the setup? I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks, Ray

those "red focus squares" mark the position of the TTL sensors, which can only be used when the miror is down; if you're using live view, the mirror is up, and those TTL sensors cannot work, therefore you're stuck with contrast detection autofocus (which you can control with the "big white focus square")

the latest sony DSLRs use translucent mirrors so that both TTL and image sensors can receive light at the same time; they suck for video, though

I'm not sure if the 7D has it (check your manual) but the 60D in live view/movie mode has a focus mode called "Quick." In this mode, when you half-press the shutter button or press the AF button the mirror flips up, the screen blacks out and the camera focuses using the TTL focus points (red boxes). The mirror then flips up, the screen returns and shows which focus points are in focus. I believe you can select an individual or all focus points normally.

You can use the Quick mode, but it will increase your shutter counter with every focus attempt.
