Can Media Composer run on one processor..?

My system specs are: Dell Precision 670, single Xeon 3.2gHz (1MB L2 Cache), 2GB DDR2 SDRAM memory, nVidia Quadro FX 1300 (128MB) graphics card, 2 internal hard drives (160GB and 400GB SATA non-raid).

I'm running Xpress Pro 5.8 right now. Here's the issue - can my single processor (xeon 3.2gHz is fairly fast) handle it if i upgrade to media composer, or do i have to go to dual processors..?

I know i can improve performance of the system by upgrading my RAM to 4GB and upgrading my graphics card, but i can't go to dual processors without having to swap out the chipset and motherboard (which basically means getting a new computer).

thanks for any suggestions and input (these forums are a godsend)..

Media Composer 3.0 is due out in June and it will be the first time that the program will be multi-threaded. Before it didn't matter whether or not you had one core or eight -- it was a single threaded app and only used one core (mostly). That all changes with 3.0.

To answer your question, yes you could run it, but it would be wise to take advantage of some more processing horsepower.

So with the multi-threaded capability in 3.0 and a dual processor, is that mean the application will run faster as well as more streams?
