I can't find my manual right now, But the term you're looking for is USB STREAMING, that allows the camcorder to do live feed video through the internet...
I checked B&H Photo's website and Panasonic's website, and couldn't find if it had it or not...

Sure, if your webcam software allows streaming from a firewire connection.
But why the heck would you use a DVX, an expensive camera, to do the job a less than $100 camera would do? [/quote]
I was thinking the same exact thing.
Except, I guess he doesn't have to have a tape in the dvx, so it wouldnt be any wear on the heads. The only problem is that the dvx default settings have it so it turns off after 5 mins of non-activity. So he'd have to change that in the menu (i think its possible to disable it). Otherwise I guess he might as well use it.
i only want to use it as a webcam because i already have it. So why should i spend extra money to buy a new webcam if I can already use the cam i have--- and at that, get really good picture from it?
Can anyone suggest a good and inexpensive webcam software setup that will allow me to use my DVX??
DVX is a BIG webcam ;D
I don't know any webcam software that allows Firewire as video input. Why? Because there are fixed video bitrate through Firewire...some 3,6 MB/s and that's far too much for internet streaming.
Videocard with analog video input...that's what you need.
I used it in Apple's iChat for a video conference and it was great. Apple supports primarily Firewire. After all, they invented it...mostly.
I usually use other cameras but it offers a better image with less noise in the dark than a cheap camera, so the image looks better on the other side. I can also pick it up and give a "tour" of the room that I'm in and zoom in and out of objects.
Sadly, even then, I shoot in progressive with cine-like settings and manual focus.
Yes, there is at least one webcam program for PC, which works with Firewire: WebcamDV.
Full version costs $20 but trial is available for download. http://www.orangeware.com/endusers/webcamdv.html
I guess you could buy a Porche 911 just to listen to the radio, or a Cray supercomputer to balance your checkbook, or 10,000 square foot mansion to house your pet, but why on earth would you want to???
true- but thats like saying that itd be wrong to take that 911 to the Quiky Mart if I needed to get some milk- i dont think you buy cheap toyota just to go to the Convienient stores when you can go there with the Porsche, you know what i mean?
