Can I take pics with my dvx100b?

I probably should know, but I'm not sure, but can I use my dvx100b as a camera? If so, how?

No. Professional cameras do not have still picture functions.

In theory you can take pictures with any video camera. It's not worth the time or effort but you can. Just capture whatever video you want to take a snapshot of. put it into PP and export the frame.

the only way you're going to get somewhat good still pictures is if you shoot in one of the progressive modes at a very very high shutter speed, then do the rest in post production. they're still going to have a lower resolution than virtually any DSLR or even P+S camera, but you could make a sequence of images if you wanted to, by simply exporting certain frames.

This is kind of off topic but the A1 actually does have a still picture function. Actually comes in handy for quick storyboarding and such.
