can I delete one partition only

My drive is filled, but two of the partitions contain identical footage....

I want to delete one of them, but when I select one of these identical partitions to delete...computer only offers "format" option.

Is this format option only for that selected partition, or is it asking me if I want to format entire drive?

Yes, but depending on your setup you may need to do it differently. Is this a RAID array? If so, formatting a partition would probably take out both. But if they are independent, format is what you want. You can only format partitions, that word doesn't apply to anything else.

not sure about the raid array thing....

ill have to investigate further....dont wanna format my entire drive accidently
