Can HV-30 record directly to hard disk (like FireStorm)?

Hello all,

quick BG: JVC-GY500, Canon broadcast wide zoom, radio mics, boom mike, etc. Been making SD DVDs for my own products and for corporate clients for years. I edit in Final Cut Pro 6.x

Now I have the HV-30, and BeachTek for sound input, so I can make YouTube clips on location. My question: is there a HDD drive solution out there that will allow the HV-30 to record directly to it while shooting, to avoid the log and capture part of the editing process?

Or some other media recorder (like CF or SDHD)?

Anything that can take firewire or HDMI and is fast enough will work. Firewire transmission is at the same bitrate as SD so anything that works for SD should work here as well. On HDMI you can download uncompressed or cineform and that will require faster gizoms.


BTW, i see that you have a JVC-GY500. I am looking for the pinout on the viewfinder. (I have the vierwfinder but not the camera and wish to mate it with an HV-20.

Would you perhaps be willing to help?
 
Re. Canon to FW: I have plenty of external drives, but cannot see how to get the drive to 'see' the camera. I can see how I could do it if I add a laptop to the mix (and Capture Now via FCP), but what I want is a drive that recognises that it is being fed a DV signal, and which can be controlled via buttons on the 'HDD itself, like the FireStorms.

Re. the GY500: I would love to, but the gear in is Canberra and I am off to VietNam in a couple of days and am in Sydney---short version, I would not be able to help until I get back (Dec. 3rd, roughly). Would this be too late? Cheers and thanks, kl

yes, a bare HDD won't do it. I'm not on top of what's available. I have a straight to computer setup but that isn't good for highly mobile situations.
