Can anyone fill me in on these lenses?

My momma just gave me two lenses that she had used for her old (not really old) Canon Rebel G 35mm cam- a 35-80mm, and a 100-300mm. I'm assuming that with these lenses being probably over 10-12 years old, they don't have image stabilizer or any of the other fancy new jazz that lenses come with. Can anyone give me any tips on how to get the most out of them?

I threw em on my Rebel T2I about an hour ago and the pics I've shot so far ain't so bad. If anything, they'll hold me over until I can get some really nice ones.

Well, like you said, lack of optical stabilization is a drawback. Modern lenses are also coated in a way that reduces flares and reflexes, but if you're into cinematography you wanna have control over light anyway.

Dunno anything about your lenses in particular, but hell, if it looks good... it kinda is, right?

I love the old lens. Lots cheaper than the new quality lens. I bought my t2i last month and now have 9 old lens. It take a while to learn the strong and weak points of each lens. First you need a adapter. Google and learn about your lens and find out if they are better for video or stills?

They're not that old of lenses, and they are both Canon. They're also both 4-5.6 I believe, so not the fastest by far.

I was taking some pics outside today with the 100-300, and my Rebel all of the sudden tells me that the lens is dirty and needs cleaned, or something like that. My mom isn't anywhere near a pro photographer, and its apparent that she didnt take all that great of care of the 100-300.

As far as IS goes, I guess I'm spoiled. Maybe it's kind of like going back to driving a car without power steering after years of having it-it's certainly doable, but will take some getting used to.

Plus, I'm still bummed that we had to return all of the high end lenses that we used on my film over the past few weeks...sigh...someday : )

Unless you're addicted to hand-held IS is worse than useless.
How many cine lenses have IS?
Right!
As for the lens being dirty, I'd have a look at the contacts first of all.
