Can 35mm Motion picture lens cover the 5D FF sensor?

I wonder whether the 35mm Motion picture lens, say LOMO OKC1-50-1, will cover the whole area of 5DII sensor?. I have some Lomo 35mm film lens and am considering to get a 5DII sometime in the future. Any comment is appreciated.
Thanks

Not by a mile. The 5D's sensor is twice as large as a 35mm movie frame.

The 7D's sensor is the same size as movie film, so movie lenses would cover it.

Is it possible that some 35mm movie lenses would cover it? Some of those c-mount lenses will cover GH1 frames and the GH1 sensor is quite a bit bigger than 16mm, right?

35mm PL lenses typically cover a 28mm image circle out to about 32mm for a few.
FF35 requires a 43-44mm image circle.
If you want to shoot with 35mm movie lenses stick to APS-C or plan on cropping your FF images.

The other issue is that the mirror box of a 5DII interferes with the back of a PL lens, so they won't adapt without removing the mirror reflex system. Not a good match at all.

There is one set of movie lenses that will cover full frame 35mm, and that's the Zeiss Compact Primes. (because, basically, they're re-housed SLR lenses).

But even then, I don't think the widest-angle 18mm covers the full frame entirely.

Hi,
Thank you very much all.
I think it will be better for me to go with the 7D then.
Well, even so, the same restriction against using PL mount lenses applies. The mirror box in all the DSLRs will conflict with actual movie lenses that use the PL mount, except for certain lenses (usually the most-telephoto lenses.)

If you want to use PL-mount lenses, you don't really want a Canon or any mirror-box SLR, unless you're willing to have it permanently modified by removing the mirror box.

The GH1, or upcoming GH2, is by far the easiest to adapt for PL lenses.

Hi Barry,
Many thanks. That's a good point but I somehow overlooked!. I'm the Nikon still camera and GH1 vdo guy, not aware that 7D has a mirror.

If it has an optical viewfinder, it has a mirror... so if it's a true SLR, that means there's a mirror box. If it's a "mirrorless" camera like the GH1, there's no issue.

Ahh yes, the compact primes - was wondering with Zeiss since there's also that Zeiss 28mm f/2 "Hollywood" lens that they used to sell in Contax mount and from what I understood that was also a cinema design originally, or at least borrowed from the cinema lens (could be wrong).

Was there not also a set of Canon cinema lenses that were very much based off of FD mount lenses (were they just re-housed slr lenses too?)

Of course, even if some of these lenses accidentally covered that frame, it doesn't seem like a good idea, weird stuff seems to happen once you get beyond the intended image circle.

Seems like if you want to go PL mount a mirrorless cam like the GH1 is the clearest path to that goal.
