Yesterday it seems like I left the power switch on, noticed it today. First thought is the battery was dead, but tried two more and the camera does nothing.......

Brand new GH3 with no signs of physical damage, luckily my friend had a GH2 which I used on a shoot today but one thing I can say about Canon is this NEVER happened before..... Anyone please help me out
thanks

Wow that is crazy. I think this is the first case of anything like this happening with a GH3 so far.

I have forgotten my GH3 with power on before and haven't had an issue. I really hope you get to the bottom of this as a GH3 owner. Hope its something isolated.

I remember when i got my Canon 7D, on the first night, i took a couple of pictures, then my wife touched it... wouldn't turn back on. Had to returned it. sucked returning it & dont let the wife touch it = lesson learned!

Does ANYONE know what to do? I bought the camera from Henry's in Canada and currently live in Florida..... Truly feel horrible about this........

You ordered it from there ? Online? or picked it up in the store? There should be a way of contacting them. This is really unfortunate. I'm not trying to be a pest, but obviously you tried batteries in with switch on, as well as switch off? It sounds like there is just something not connecting right between the battery and switch. Press battery firmly up, wiggle it a bit, while switching power on? Things of that nature.

Henry's are pretty good for service. They are a few blocks down the street from me. I bought my GH3 there in early Dec.

www.henrys.com Give them a call. I wish I could give you advice but other than the things already suggested I can't think of anything else. If its a faulty camera then nothing short of a return will help it.

Wow, that sucks for sure. I'd try removing battery and memory card and lens. Let the camera sit with just the body cap on for a while (hour or so). Then put just the battery back in and switch in on. My thinking is that that the camera memory may have gotten messed up if the switch was left on as the battery went dead.

i also read on another forum that an internal fuse blew on a GH3 when the battery was inserted with the power switch in the on position. The fuse is not user replaceable and required service.

Thanks for the help everyone, I sent it to Henry's today next day service from Florida. Cost me about $90, they should have it by tomorrow. I contacted Henry's and they told me it can be anywhere from 4-8 weeks to get the camera back......

In all the years of shooting this has never happened to me, luckily I have a friend who will let me borrow his GH2 on the next couple of shoots I have coming up but I must say I was truly down today. I bought the camera new from another country and it's just a mess dealing with international stuff.
If I would have bought it from Amazon like I usually do shipping would have been next to nothing....

Regardless my only advice I can tell people is be very careful with your camera, these are electronics and you never know when they can go.
Hopefully I get my camera back sooner than later ;(

A wild guess... this might be the result of the present high solar spot activity. I had a phone go bonkers a few days ago, and the repairman said there was a surge of strangely behaving or dead phones arriving.

Two somewhat hard learned lessons here:

Balance the potential savings from international purchase against convenience of service from native country purchase.

BACKUP!!! Some kind of backup gear is absolutely essential. That's why for now I've kept one GH2 and should remain reluctant to sell it off until I get another GH3 body. Plus I just got in a $230 (open box special) Lumix GX1 body (uses all the lenses I have for the GH cams) for something really compact to have with me for stills primarily.

This just happened to me too. I was out on a side-by-side test between the GH3, the RX10, the BMPCC and a camcorder - and the GH3 went into sleep mode and would not come out. I've had lockups in the past, but never anything like this. I have plenty of backup cameras, but this is a big downcheck for my heretofore reliable favorite camera.

Sadly, the camera shipped on November 28, 2012, so it is out of warranty by a little over a month.
