camera menu settings

I'm in a local college film program and confused on what the different settings are in the camera. My teachers don't seem to know what the SYNCRO SCAN, detail level, V detail level, detail color, Chroma level, Chroma Phase, Master Pedestal, Gamma, Knee, Matrix, and so on are. I was wondering if anybody had any good resources that teach you about this. I just purchased an HMC 150 and i am trying to figure out what the best settings are for my camera and what everything does so if you know any good resources please let me know.
 
sounds like your 'teachers' haven't read the manual!
in lieu of barry's great book, check out the manual as well as the pdf on scene file settings (google or search this forum for the link).
 
I think you need to sign in to PASS to download the scene setting manual. I've linked to it before. SHould show up on a search.
