Camera LCD and HDMI out at the same time?

How are things turning out on this issue?
Magic Lantern is going to fix it?

Damn... All these workarounds, can't do this, camera not capable of is driving me crazy, RED can't come soon enough.

It's a $1700 camera. And it wasn't designed for serious videography. All of the shortcomings should be expected, not matters of complaint and endless frustration. If it doesn't work for you, then don't use it. You didn't have to buy it. It's like complaining about a Canon HV40 because it doesn't do what the XL-H1 does.

A fully working RED Scarlet S35 kit will probably cost over $10,000. If that's what you can afford, then why not stick to an EX1/HVX200/HMC150/etc. plus 35mm adapter? Sure, it wouldn't be as lightweight or as light sensitive, but it would do all of the video-oriented things that you'd want it to do.

Just be glad that you're not shooting film instead of HD video.

Is there a workaround with Magic Lantern (will be?), other way, Mini-HDMI to HDMI splitter (something small, mountable?)?

Off-camera monitoring is kinda crucial to most kinds of shooting besides non-personal or one man band events.

I know all the yadda-yadda it's a cheap camera, ok, but I won't forgive nor ignore its shortcomings. It's something that will limit me, so I'll look for solutions before even buying, not be grateful because it's cheap and I'm getting more than enough.

The point is, if off-camera monitoring is "crucial" for the work you're doing, you shouldn't get (or have gotten) a 7D, 5D or GH1 in the first place.

Never buy something that doesn't do what you need it to do.

As far as I know, ML will not "solve" this issue. (It might, but until the 7D version is out and running, nobody will know for certain, except Tramm.)

Gospel.

Magic Lantern looks promising, but you know what? There's always the possibility that it may never come out, for all we know. Tramm is working on trying to get it, but what if he can't make it? What if Canon changed something that prevents it from working out? What if Tramm gets a job at Nasa, and can't spend any more free time working on it?

Where would that leave you?

That's the danger of buying something that doesn't do what you want, thinking that a "fix" will come along. Nobody is under any obligation to issue any enhancements or fixes.

So if it doesn't do what you want right out of the box, don't buy it.

The last phrase on my first post was a general phrase, that everyone went through just because camera companies don't listen to customers, like letting adapters users years without a simple monitor flip option, gosh, insane, a simple quick menu option to invert the monitor like when you turn it around! Hence the RED statement, a company that listens.

Well... I'm researching exactly because of this. I really like the 7D, S35 vids in a compact package. That would make for great personal videos and my first decent still camera :).

However I was also considering for a short next year, but the producer demands video monitoring, she says the film can't be shot without it, not an option, and I read this on another forum by accident, so I went to investigate, guess I couldn't get my search right and found nothing over here.

Since the short is some months from now let's see how Magic Lantern turns out or what not.

Thanks to all.

There's also the possibility that entirely new products might be introduced between now and then, which may have addressed your concern...

In the meantime, if you must use a 7D for this, about the only thing you can do is use an HDMI splitter and two monitors.
