Camera as a camera

I could be wrong, but I presume it will still be 72 ppi video per frame. I would like an option to be able to use it as a camera (as in photography) since I do that as well and don't want to pay 20,000 dollars for a hasselblad with a digital back. So if you could just give me the option of taking even higher resolution stills it would be appreciated and I would definitely buy one.

FWIW, a Canon D5, around 3 grand, is comparable in the sensor, with a full-frame 12 megapixel sensor (except that the Super35 sized sensor is smaller than a full 35mm frame).

Medium format backs range from 22 to 39 megapixels and have comparably more sophisticated optics (and prices, yeah).

Yep, that is the whole point of RED. I have gone on vacation and carried both my camcorder and camera. I film first. Then I intend on taking a shot with my camera, but the shot is gone in that short amount of time. Life doesn't sit still for you to use both. Red will be great. Also I have grown acustomed to the 20X zoom on my Canon GL1. I hate switching lenses on my still camera. Also the biggest lens I have is 300mm. That is nothing compared to 20X optical. Being able to capture a hight quality still from Final Cut Pro would be the best thing in the world. 72dpi is the junk I get now from my GL1, not good enough for anything.

yeah being able to pull usable stills from a frame of video is going to be a great addition.. and at a decent resolution.
