camera around $600-700 to sync with two 7'd

hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a good HD (1920 x 1080) recording camera/dslr/camcorder (whatever) that we can pair up with our two 7d's. This will be primarily used for weddings but also some sporting events and commercial shots.

We need this other camera to obviously overcome the 12 minute recording limit on the 7d's plus add a third angle at wedding ceremonies etc.

really want something that is going to have a similar footage look to the 7d's and won't require to much colour correction in post.

also want something around the $600-700. I am aware that you can pick up a GH1 for around this price but how much will the lenses cost? especially if we need one with a lot of reach, such as from the back of the church.

cheers

cheers trey! this does seem like a good option...do u know what adapter i can use to get FD lenses on the GH1?

awesome...just a couple of thing (i have tried reading up on the camera but can't seem to get the right info)

*i'm guessing from your response you can uses custom white balance on them
*how does the camera perform in high ISOs?
*what codec do they film in? i convert all my native 7d files to prores 422, will i need to do this with these?
*is there a new hack out? i was reading that you need one that was made prior to 2010 to get the higher bit rate hack

your help is really appreciated mate

You could get a t2i and install Magic Lantern. It would match the 7d's perfectly, and with the ML hack there is a feature that allows continuous recording - it's not seamless and there will be a gap of a few seconds between each clip, but it means the camera can be left unattended without having to manually press record every 12 minutes.

hey guys thanks for the help.

i went ahead and bought the GH1. with the aussie dollar at the moment it only cost me $460 including shipping from B & H. That is so much cheaper than what your paying over here.

Been reading up on it all afternoon. With the new hack the footage looks amazing! this also allows me to get some old fd lenses which is a bonus over the t2i.

now just to find some good cheap lenses. can anyone recommend something in the 70-200 range. was looking at the FD 70-200 but they are f4.5 which might not give me enough light in some situations. really after a 2.8 which i can see in the FD 200mm but really need it to be a zoom when working on ceremonies etc

beck has a 135mm 2.8 that is really nice that is an FD mount. it would be equivalent to a 270mm on the GH1. you wont have a short range zoom though. You could always get the 50mm f1.4 and shoot sharp great footage @ 2.8 and framing the 100mm crop look would be a litte easier in tight spaces.
