Call or email canon to get manual audio on the 7d!

I personally can't believe that canon would release a camera like the 60d with manual audio and not release a firmware update for the 7D/5D/t2i

I called and spoke with a Canon person and he said that they have not received enough complaints on this matter to make it a high priority issue.

If everyone here calls and emails Canon I think we will get our manual audio we deserve.

I can't believe Canon wouldn't just do the right thing here and come out with a firmware upgrade.

here is the link to post a comment or call:

please call or send a comment and maybe Canon will give manual audio to the 7d/5d/t2i!!!!!!!!!

Well Ronster,
If you've done your research and search the eff'n forum you'd know that this sh!t wont happen.
Besides,
-there is already threads about this crap the same time 60d was announced
-the 5d already got the manual audio update
-the 1Dmk4 cost 3-4 times as much as your stupid @rse 7d that you are b!tchin about; yet it did not get manual control (however the 5d, cost half as much, did)
-you bought the camera already, now you are b!tchin some more after you've owned it. Canon did not state they would give you the manual, yet you still bought it.... wtf?
-if you want manual control, buy a camera where it is listed on the option
-why would/should the 7D get manual when the 1Dmk4 did not? Do you think your 7D is more deserving than a 1Dmk4?
-you argument is annoying and baseless; in the scenario of the camera op and the client; (YOU) the client pays for 5 hours of footage but later b!tches about wanting 6 hours for the same price

Also, the 7D has full hdmi out while recording, the 60D does not...
Please don't start another thread complaining about the 60D not having full hdmi out when the 7D does.

100% agree. If you want manual audio go and buy a 60d. Sell your 7d, buy a 60d and still have some extra money left.

asdfasdf,
I think your anger and tone might need to be curbed a bit. Simply pointing out there are other threads on this would have been sufficient. No need for insults.

Just because an option is available on a newer model, it's no reason - in and of itself - why those option could not be added.

If complaints will help, then I'll complain. Too many other options from other companies for Canon to turn a totally deaf ear.

This is what I just sent:

"Please add a firmware upgrade for MANUAL AUDIO CONTROL for the T2i.

It is clearly possible (http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/550D) and I shouldn't be forced to use this if I want manual control.

Simply put, add the option or my next camera will be either a Panny or Nikon - both of which offer cameras of similar quality and price, albeit with manual audio.

Well it gets worse. Even the newly release Canon Powershot SX30 IS has the same manual control functionality and user interface as the 5D MKII/60D. We all know they could add that line of code, but it looks like Canon is just not interested for what ever reason.

The reason would be that they know manual audio is one of the things getting people to buy a 60D over a t2i (myself included). If they add it to the t2i, they will lose sales on the 60D. That is reason enough.

Wait a while, once the 60D sales have dropped off, that is when they will bring up the manual audio option (if ever).

Canon is in a windfall of business with these DSLRs. They did it right. Rather then just firmware updating the whole line they created a long-time-coming replacement for their 50D and targeted this camera at video shooters. It is a near home run of a camera for video only shooters. Nearly all the feature differences between 60D and 7D are still photo features. So canon added cool video features dropped some "Pro Photo" functionality and shipped a camera that is a great little video camera. Its as if they put the t21, 7D, 5D spliced their DNA and gave us a bunch of cool features from each camera. its only 1000 bucks.

Why would canon go out of their way to make your camera better for free. They made a better (video features) camera and you can now buy it. Its called business. Did you call apple to update your iphone when iphone 4 came out. How dare companies improve their products and not give them away for free.

Its threads like this and negative responses like asdfasdf's that have made the DSLR section her on user nearly unreadable.

If you are really angry sell the 7D buy 60D and then come back here and complain when the next camera comes out.

Even if Canon does allow disabling the AGC and provides manual level control, it's still never going to be as good as even a modestly priced separate sound recorder.

Consider that it uses a 1/8" jack, has no headphone output, no phantom power, and so on. I guess it might make a JuicedLink unit more viable on the same camera.

Personally, I'd rather they free up their engineers to focus on the moire/aliasing problems. That will most likely be in the next generation of cameras though.

Meh... I have a 7d and really don't care if i ever get manual audio control. In a way, it's good not to have it IMO, since it forced me to start recording with professional audio equipment sooner than I would have otherwise, and thereby let me know how critical that was to do. I can see why it might be nice for some, videographers mostly, but the only thing I want to see is a 7d mk2 with a full-frame sensor so i can use wide lenses, or a 5d mk3 with the processing power and ease of video the 7d has over the 5d mk2 now.

good luck on your quest, though.

Yeah, I'm sure Canon is quaking in their boots right now.

Sigh.

ANYWHO, there's a little known proverb that goes something like this "The noisy wheel gets the grease."

For more on what that means:
http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/squeaky+wheel+gets+the+grease.html

As for why would Canon ever give something away for "free," they - and every other camera company that's ever put out firmware upgrades - already have, and in a major way with the Mark II (24p).

And that change only came because of very loud, and very frequent, complaints.

One more thing - the buyer of a new product (6 months in the case of the T2) shouldn't have to sell everything they just bought to buy another company's product, when such a simple solution is available in the form of firmware.

Not a matter of "hate," quite the opposite - I love the T2.

If you meant me, the eek! Sorry if I conveyed any feeling of negativity in my comment. I really do hope you guys can get through to canon and have them make the changes they ethically should do to make your lives easier. If anyone was upset by my post, please consider this a personal apology from me.

The problem is Canon has given consumers who own cameras like the 7D false hopes, especially since they have already shown that they can and will update their cameras with feature-adding firmware updates similar to those for the 5D MKII. Unfortunately they shot themselves in the foot when they did that. Now you have hundreds of thousands of consumers looking for the same treatment with their cameras and aren't receiving it. I don't blame those people. What makes a 5D MKII owner any different than a 7D owner?

The 5d came out with 30p and then the 7d came out with 23.98. 5d owners complained in heavy numbers to the very number and email I just posted. Within a few months they got a firmware update that allowed the 5d to also shoot 23.98.

So I am asking people to do the same thing with the audio.

I think you are wrong in your analysis. I would strongly recommend everyone to call or email and if we put enough pressure canon will listen and bring out the firmware upgrade. There is no reason for them not to do it.

Seriously though you should learn to be a bit more polite on these message boards. Your kind of rude.

cheers,

Ronster

Perhaps a real human actually read my complaint - it took a day to get back and it mentions my camera...

Perhaps. And that's enough for now. Maybe, just maybe, if enough of us actually spend 60 seconds sending one, and they spend 10 seconds responding, they'll have to give it to us as a cost saving measure.
