GH4 Cages for GH5

Thanks mate. It's a bit rough around the edges but was a quick proof of concept of what is possible to the Producers/editors.

Just got the Came-TV cage. In principle it's fine, however the front plate won't allow to use the Metabones Speedbooster, bummer!

I am planning on returning it. Unless someone has any experience to make this thing work?

Did you try removing the SpeedBooster's foot. Lots of cages have the same isssue, & this is a common solution.

@ Ben Scott.

I am looking for a simple car set up for my GH5. Car will not driving too fast. Something like this might be ideal. can you give me some more details ? Which one is it and how long does it take to set it up?

Cheers

These are just parts I had lying around. The plate from a dolly plus suction cups and manfrotto ball head with some amazon safety cables.

look at the rigwheels rigplate and cups

I picked up a Varavon Zeus cage from a fellow dvxuser and it seemed nice at first but the design is really lacking. Can't use the top handle with the XLR unit and there is only one central screw hole for attaching a tripod plate so the cage can twist on the plate. It was economical but it is basically only going to hold me over until I find something better.

Hilariously, one of the things I DON'T like about this cage is the lack of anything over the camera grip. I cannot hold the GH5 without pressing the Display button, and it's beyond infuriating. I need a cage that will put some distance between my palm and that part of the camera grip in order for it to be worth while.

Well that sold me. I'm ordering one. Pricey perhaps, but way more workable than any other design I've seen so far.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered one. I have always wanted a cage that would accommodate the battery grip, which means I can now shoot for 4+ hours before changing batteries, and there are rods for follow-focus and matte box.

There's some discussion on the GH5 Facebook page about this new cage. There appears to be some disagreement about the rods being at a correct height. Also, there's no place to secure a Metabones adapter using their foot attachment.

I don't use the MB adapter foot with my GH5 so it wouldn't bother me. I also like the thought of holding the rig by the camera's grip side (augmented by the battery grip no less).

All of my Metabones adapters have the foot removed, as I've always found it to get in the way when I'm shooting, and makes taking it on and off a little more awkward.

My biggest complaint with the GH5 is that my palm always triggers the display button. I really love the look of the Movcam cage; for those that have it, does it effectively put your hand a good distance away from the display button?
