GH4 Cages for GH5

FYI, I contacted Movcam about their cage a few days ago and they said it'd be shipping at the end of the month.

I also asked about just buying the cage itself, as I don't personally want their top handle or rod holder, and he said if there's enough demand they will offer it separately. So if you're also interested in the cage-only, send an email to scott@movcam.com and let him know.

I wrote to Scott and expressed how I had no immediate use for the top handle or the 15mm rails mount, and tonight I got a reply... :love4:

Good news - Movcam have decided to offer the cage as a stand alone item.

We’re shipping the very first units out to the US in the next week so best to contact 16x9 and they can point you to a local retailer up North.

The part you are after is 303-3501, and as shown below you can see the assorted accessory SKUs if you want to add them later.

Paid for the LockCircle cage today...got the "full" cage (side bar over he camera grip included), the Multiport (bolts to the HDMI side of the cage) clamps all connectors in the HDMI side of the cage and the titanium focal plane pin for a focus puller to hook his/her tape on to measure to actors marks...looks like a beautifully designed piece of gear...I got the preorder discount, so $445 US...will post photos when my daughter brings it at the end of July....I did not consider any cage without the HDMI clamp, though I liked the Smallrig cage and clamp...have to say everything I get from them, is impressive in terms of quality and design.

What is the static of this offer. I posted on both this forum and facebook my interest in purchasing the cage. In addition, Zacuto is offering a free top handle to the first 50 pre-order as a bonus. Am I eligible receive both the 25% discount along with the free top handle?
 
Well, I ordered the GH5 cage kit from 16x9, Inc. as it was a little cheaper than going through B&H. Hopefully, Movcam doesn't keep delaying its release.

Hi guys,

I do a lot of car mount stuff and so need a cage that will offer a bit more protection than a lot of these half-cage or quarter-cage solutions. Anyone know of something a bit more robust that will at least protect all corners of the camera?

The grip side of the GH5 is left fairly exposed to grant good access to buttons in all the cages...I opted for the LockCircle as the cage itself is very robust and it clamps everything on the HDMI side out using something they call the Multiport Lock...and they also provide a focal plane pin to hook a tape measure to...all important to me....you may well have to go with a cheap generic large cage for your car mount stuff where you'll be able to reach into the cage to reach the controls...all the current GH5 specific cages do not seem to protect the camera that much...they're all oriented towards good accessibility.
 
@Ben Scott....something like this may work well for you and allow you to attach your car rig itself and hang anything else you may need at a minimal cost...the LockCircle cage and clamp alone is 470 preorder price but I'll build the GH5 out with that...at this price you can afford to throw the crappy handles and rails away:)...would like to see a pick of your car rig setup some time when you have it done!

Well I've used various car setups for different things.

This was a very very simple one last week.

Basic GH5 car rig on JPLM at Bedford Autodrome by Ben Scott, on Flickr

The mount itself was rock solid but unsurprisingly at 130mph round a corner the camera twisted in the baseplate and came off!

I've already given my Amazon review 5 star rating to those safety cables that saved it!

Main setup will be with a Tilta Gravity Gimbal and something like a Cloud Mount vibration isolator.

EDIT EDIT: Although it was a speedbooster xl not Ultra, and I'm looking to swap my XL for an ultra if anyone is interested?

Off topic but just tested the Tokina 11-16 2.8 with the XL speedbooster on the GH5 which gets me down to 7.4mm and no sign of vignetting with IBIS though admittedly I was holding the camera fairly still.
