GH4 Cages for GH5

This Zacuto is nice, with a nice price tag as well. I'm waiting for the LockCircle "Robot Skin" to show up, it's supposed to be out by now, but no word yet.

I am waiting for Tilta's GH5 cage with wooden handle. I've seen a video of it from a show but there is no sign of it on Tilta's website. B&H has a page for it but no clear ship date.

I saw Tilta's cage at NAB. IMHO, it's not designed well and the attachment points are very fiddly. The poor guy demoing it to me had a hard enough time getting the cage placed on and disassembled from the rod base.

Movcam's cage for the GH5 will include a HDMI support.

I bought the SmallRig cage because it was dirt cheap and figured it would hold me over until I find a better cage. ( and it will become my B-roll cage when I buy a 2nd body )

So far I really like the features of the Movcam GH5 cage, especially given how it's priced compared to the other cages, so it looks like this will be my next and probably final GH5 cage.

That's disappointing to hear, I really like my Tilta A7S cage with handle.

I have the SmallRig cage and really like it for what it is. The reason I'm considering the Movcam cage is the HDMI support. While SmallRig has HDMI support for other cameras, they don't have anything (that I've seen) that will work on the GH5 cage. If they come up with something before that plastic thing that came with the camera breaks I'll be happy.

I registered with Lockcircle when their cage was first announced...spoke to their product development manager a few days ago...supposedly photos will go out soon and it should ship around mid June...it's a much heftier cage than the Zacuto...can't imagine picking a 15 lb something fully rigged including heavy lens camera to get up on the shoulder with the Zacuto...also Lockcircle includes a pro quality HDMI port lock that's pretty well a must have for me in whatever cage I get...will post photos once they send them...

Why is Lockcircle so vague? I have never owned any of their products, their look is very interesting, high end, and pretty much everything I could want. However, It would be nice to know some details like weight of the cage, maybe some pricing info of the many options, or what are some of the benefits/usages of the many options they provide. I signed up for the Pre Order program to get this info. I think the preorder pricing is great for the two options I saw, but again the weight would be nice to know.

SmallRig Cage Update: I've found it difficult to reach the top control dial (aperture, ISO, Expo. Comp.) because the cage sits right on top of it. However, I can reach the White Balance, ISO, and Expo. Comp. buttons just fine. It's not a deal breaker for me, just something to work around.
Can you clarify difficult please, as I use the 2 wheels to adjust everything...if difficult, but possible I'm fine with it...if impossible I'm not...hard to tell from the photos you posted...a bit more feedback would be much appreciated!

Waiting for my final quote from them before I pull the trigger...but it's long in coming...also want the Panny Leica 8-18 so now the Smallrig cage is looking better...especially with the HDMI lock option...I have a concern about using the front wheel with the SmallRig cage though...any feedback would be much appreciated from someone who has one!

Definitely still possible, but with very little clearance. Not ideal, but it's not like it stops me from using the front wheel on every shoot.

In general, I don't like the ergonomics of the smallrig cage. It has sharp-ish edges and doesn't give as comfortable access to the wheels and buttons as I'd like, but it was very inexpensive and has great mounting options, protects the camera nicely, etc. I'm not crazy about their hdmi clamp. It's ok, but not great.

I've been using the SmallRig which arrived not to long after the GH5 - with the pre-order price of $45 didn't think I was risking too much to order it sight unseen with no one having any experience with it. Verdict: no issues. I have no issues getting to the front dial or the WB/ISO buttons on top. It did take a bit to get accustomed to it, I did have to adapt and reach around but it's no big deal. If I were shooting where I needed to make more 'on-the-fly' adjustments, I might need to practice. But the controls are still reachable. Well worth it for me.

+1 Steve pretty much sums it up here for the Small Rig cage.

I also have the small Rig DSLR cage which will take pretty much any DSLR, so like Steve I only got the GH5 cage because of the pre order price and though it was worth a shot. Bottom line, its really good, very light, has a decent anti-twist design. Only slight niggle is the front dial being slightly obscured, but again, nothing major. The cage is good enough that I don't foresee me using the bigger DSLR cage for the GH5, unless I want to bolt on tons of kit, which kinds defeats the purpose of the GH5, its so neat to be able to knock out great quality footage just handheld, without having to lug around sticks and a ton of other crap.

Fully rigged with some of my large lenses I probably get up to the 16-18lb range...my handle bolts to a NATO rail on the top center part of any cage I'll use and I lift the rig on and off my VCT-14 plate to go from tripod to shoulder...do you think that the cage is stiff/strong enough for that...just looking for a guess unless someone else uses this set up with a heavy rig also and can give some feedback
