C80 posted on Amazon

I've been using a C70 on a couple shoots at work and it's been a fantastic camera to work with (apart from the floppy monitor hinge). The image looks great, the menus are pretty straightforward, 10 stops of internal ND is incredibly convenient, and there are a range of codec options. The form factor isn't my favorite but you get used to it. If I weren't embedded in the Sony ecosystem in my personal gear I could see the appeal of the C80. The addition of SDI out is a huge plus (and the lack of it on the C70 was a major oversight).

That said, it's a bit of a shame they've ditched the S35 sensor size, although I can see the logic of wanting this to work seamlessly with the C400.

With no s35 rf zooms the sensor onvthe c70 was a mess.

Full frame plus 28-80/2 or 24-105/2.8 with good af deliver something sony cannot.

They get closer to the “all day lens”

I’m curious, what is it that Sony can’t do? I thought they had FF cameras, great AF and lenses?

The canon 24-105 2.8 is the current king of all day one lense work in corporate amd journalism. Decent fov and and enough T when it gets dull. Amazing.

Sony 28 zoom is not up with that.

For “art pros” the canon 28-80 f2 zoom eats swinging primes all day.

It another unique serious tool that sony cant match.

The 20-70+fx3 would be king for an in car/tank/traincab doc.

Canon cant match that.

It would take very big balls to head to lusaka for a month with a telescoping 24-105/4 as your only glass.

The solid 24-105 2.8 will do you. Thats a big deal.

So is a no primes one body fashion wedding (28-80)

C70 is an underrated camera. The DGO image is superb and besides its somewhat awkward form factor it has everything you want for a run n gun shooter

Yeah it really impressed me. In some ways it offers even more versatility than my FX6, which (for me) is a nearly perfect camera. I'm currently trying to convince my unit to pick up one (or two).

Mini-XLR is my only other gripe on the C70, in addition to the lack of SDI. But with a couple adapters or mini-XLR cables on hand I'm sure you get used to it.

I prefer the image to the fx6 (better color and highlight rolloff ) but of course that's subjective. I think the ergonomics of the fx6 win though

Agreed. I much prefer the FX6 ergonomics. The C70 (and now C80) design of like a quasi DSLR body with video-centric elements wedged in—e.g., XLR inputs and room for a real battery—is a strange choice, to me. I've gotten a little more accustomed to it now that I've used it on a couple shoots, although I don't imagine ever preferring it over the FX6. I should also note that most of my work with it has been on sticks, where the form factor is less critical.

There's a Sigma 28-105 f/2.8 for Sony now, and Sony is about to announce a 24-70 f/2

Nothing eats swinging primes. (or was that beats minus a b? either way)

Eats. Beats. Is a good choice. Those lenses not quite on the one buy 24-105- but a close gap!
