C500: C500 for a sports event

So this is a weird one in that it looks as if we have a customer for a live, sports event. The event is a sports event in a field in the middle of nowhere with continuous shooting for 8 hours each day. Just pop it on the sticks, push the red button and occasionally pan around and zoom in and out. However, I've never shot continuously for 8 hours with a C500 and don't even know if the camera will do what I want.

So a couple of questions:

- Has anyone out there used a C500's HDMI out (8 bit, 4:4:4, raw) for streaming? I'm sceptical about this as raw for streaming??!!
- Will the C500 be good for 8 - 9 hour stints at a time? Have you done this?

Thanks!

IIRC, the HDMI is just regular 8-bit 4:2:0 1080p. Maybe 8-bit 4:2:2 at best. Definitely no RAW via HDMI.

The 4:4:4 is available via the SDI(s) in the 2K output modes.

The C500 should definitely be good for regular HD recording for 8-9 hour stints. It would most likely overheat if you were outputting 4K via the SDIs to a recorder.

Whatever the HDMI or SDI source, the video must be encoded, transported via a *reliable and robust* internet connection, and uploaded to a streaming server for distribution. Is someone else responsible for these tasks? Are they experienced with them? Are you going to need to learn the workflow?

Streaming can be a nightmare, hopefully you have someone technically competent to deal with the actual hookup and monitoring of the stream. I recently shot the Facebook Live for the NAACP Image Awards and they had multiple people dealing with connection/streaming and making sure our "broadcast" was being seen by the viewers okay. That's all a full time position besides production itself. Everyone I know who does live streaming seems really stressed out and frustrated all of the time. Another friend streams live seminars for a publishing firm and he was telling me about all of the nightmares they constantly run into with the upstream protocol handshakes, etc. No thanks, glad I don't have to deal with that myself.

Thanks! I'm 3,000 miles away from my camera at the moment in an area with only occasional internet access so appreciate this. We have an external fan unit we bought from someone on DVX user and it's fantastic. It turns the C500 into the camera it should have been and can run silently at 4k for an hour or so.

However, I was shooting in Madrid and recording at 4k. After 8 hours of non-continuous, the recordings started to get a little buggy (as you'd expect). I don't know if it was the Odyssey or the camera but could have been one or the other.

OK. I'm back. This location doesn't even have an internet connection... It's in a field near a river all surrounded by greenery. It's Wifi or nothing... I'm not sure I want to do this...
